George Don the Forfar Botanist was one of the earliest botanists to record Scotland's flora and fauna. His life was intertwined with the lives of Robert Brown, William Godwin, Dr Patrick Neill, and Archibald Constable, and many other notable contemporaries.

One of the earliest Botanists in Scotland to record Scotland's flora and fauna, George Don was a Naturalst and a doctor too. He lived during changing times in Scotland's history and his contemporaries and close friends read like a whose who of the times. Not only was he connected to some of the most radical people around then, but his children and their children became lifelong friends including Mary Shelley, Isabella Baxter, Percy Shelley, Lord Byron etc., and this is their story too.
