Chapter 1: Dawn on the Farm
Amelia woke to the sound of roosters crowing and the warm sunlight filtering through the curtains of her small bedroom. Her family's farm sprawled across rolling hills, dotted with grazing cows, clucking hens, and rows of golden crops. She loved the rhythm of life here, even if it was hard work. Today, however, felt different - a hint of adventure hung in the air.
"Amelia! Breakfast is ready," her mother called from downstairs.
Amelia dressed quickly, pulling on her well-worn boots and overalls, and hurried down to the kitchen. The smell of bacon and fresh bread greeted her, but so did her father's stern face.
"The northern fence is down again," he said, sipping his coffee. "After breakfast, you'll need to take Jake and fix it."
Jake was the family's old sheepdog, a loyal companion who followed Amelia everywhere. She nodded eagerly. Fixing the fence meant venturing to the far side of the farm, near the woods she'd always been curious about.
The breakfast table was lively, with her younger brother spilling milk and her mother humming while flipping pancakes. Amelia grabbed her satchel, kissed her mother's cheek, and dashed out the door, Jake bounding excitedly behind her.
