Hello coffee my old friend

I've come to drink you again

Because the morning is creeping

Makes me wish I was still sleeping

And the dream that invaded my brain

Still remains

Within the sound of morning

In tired step, I walk alone

To my kitchen with granite stone

'Neath the cabinets waiting for me

Is the machine that makes coffee

When my eye we met with a beautiful sight

That ended the night

And blessed the sound of morning

And in the kitchen light I saw

A pot of coffee, ready to be poured

The children looked, without speaking

My husband spoke, but I wasn't listening

Coffee making feelings that won't be shared

And no one dared

Disturb the sound of morning

"Fools," said I, "You do not know

Morning like a flower grows

Hear my words that I might teach you

Take this cup that it might reach you"

But my words, like silent coffee drops fell

And echoed in the time of morning

And the children laughed and played

In the kitchen mess they made

And the clock sounded out its warning

The bus for school would soon be coming

Then their father said, "Your mother made it perfectly clear

The time is near"

And so went the sound of morning
