Odebunmi: The Brave Woman Hunter
Chapter One
The Birth of Odebunmi
Odebunmi, the only daughter of Odewale was a frontline brave woman hunter from Ajia village in the good old days when everything was going great!
Odebunmi was the only living child of Odewale. She was like a tree thatbears life giving fruits to the people of Ajia. Since the birth of Odebunmi, Ajia village has never been a dearth of talents.
Odebunmi was the first woman hunter ever-lived in the whole of Yoruba land. She was born in a special way; on a special day of the week with an entirely different experience at birth that were highly very symbolic.
Odebunmi was a child sent to the world with mission and peculiar assignment among the Ajia people. Things were positively no longer the same again since the day she was born at Ajia village.
Signs of progress and rapid development became notable among the citizenry. Peace and better understanding with love was manifesting in both the young and old people of Ajia and its environs.
According to history, Odewale the father of Odebunmi was the Oluode of Ajia-the leader of the hunters, warriors and vigilantes! Odewale which bears the sobriquet: The Oluode of Ajia due to his vast leadership experience and records of landmark achievements. He was a prominent community leader and elder statesman.
In the past, Odewale played highly decisive role in some of the tribal wars in Yoruba land.
Really, Oluode-Odewale had many wives during his life time, but none of them had issue or gave birth to a child for him. Only God the creator is without limitation. He has all things in abundance. There are limitations to human efforts in life.
God can rewind, God can purse and God can fast-track. Oluode Odewale did everything humanly possible to get a son that would replace him. All his effort proved futile. It was his fate. The lack of child mixed with barrenness became a strong stigma and barrier in the real life of Odewale, the hunter and warrior.
Despite his prominent status in the community as the most loved, decoratedand recognized leader of hunters and warriors. Yoruba people valued and appreciate the having of children more than anything else. A child is far greater, more acceptable and honoured than money or fame.
Out of the seven wives that Odewale got married to, six of them left without any notice simply because they could get pregnant or give birth to a child after several years of staying together under the roof of Odewale.
Really, many favours were showered on Odewale as a successful hunter and gallant warrior in the community, but no child to behold like others who are not even as blessed.
Several sacrifices and rituals were done without any impact. He had travelled far and near in search for solution to the plight. Annually for years, Odewale was a regular witness at Osun Oshogbo festival in the name of begetting a child.
The vigorous efforts to remove the spell of childlessness failed woefully. A man may have fame, money, riches, education etc;
But, when it comes to the bearing or having a living child; that is solely in the hand of God. No individual by whatever means can get what God have not approved by destiny. Every trial or attempt would tantamount to a waste.
Truly, nothing can be compared to having a child among the Yoruba people. A child is more cherished than money or fame.
What God can do no man can! Having a child in life is no longer by force or pretence. In fact, claiming a blessing that is not approved by God often lead to regrets later. The gift of God is perfect without any sorrow attached.
An eagle will always soar and fly above other birds simple, because of its nature of not flying against the storm!
Also, when eagle rises to fly and displayon air. Every other bird must stay inside the nest for a while!
To enjoy life and have the rest of mind; a man should never fight against nature or destiny!
''The destiny can never be changed at all''
Actually, Odewale had visited many great and notable herbalists in search for solution. A man desperately in arid need of child will not sleep even in the night!
It was confirmed that Odewale was alright physically and healthy medically. He was not impotent as some people have assumed. He could perform excellently well with a woman on the mat. The major issue was that it became extremely difficult for Odewale to make a girl, lady or woman put to bed.
He tried and tested his ability and performances even with several different women from other tribes and cultures outside his matrimonial home to be double sure. He makes forth efforts in that direction, but in vain.
The wondrous aspect of the matter was that Odewale too was an herbalist that understands vividly well what or how to use herbs in the treatment of patients suffering from one aliment or other including the herbs for child bearing or treatment of barrenness that works superbly well for others failed to work for him when applied.
He was highly respected in the community when it comes to traditional medicine and the use of herbs for healing or treatment of sickness and diseases.
The last herbs he recommended for a woman who was barren without a child for twenty five years gave birth to set of twins.
Meanwhile, nobody gave the reason for such a hitch.
To be candid, Odewale could display marvellously with the day-gun as a hunter and expect. He could make it to disappear at will. He could visit the forest and killed all sort of animals. But for now, he was unable to make a woman pregnant.
What a great pity? A gallant hunter of that calibre or status in the community! Who had killed lion several times?
On one or two occasions killed big elephant and buffalo that made him more popular among the native hunters
Odewale, in addition had a captured live elephant at the back yard of his building with three ostriches that is rearing along with a bear.
He was influential, famous and wealthy. As that time, no hunter or warrior could command money like him in the whole of Yoruba land. He was sufficient in riches and assets including big farmlands with labourers and paid workers.
Odewale's success in hunting business endeavours knew no bounds. He was a master in the acts of bush-hunting either at night or in the daylight.
Also, when it comes to fighting dark-battles as a warrior, Odewale could not be waved aside as the authentic Oluode of Ajia.
History had it that Odewale played prominent roles during Ijaye war and the Ekiti-Parapo battles in Yoruba land.
He planned to be enlisted for the Second World War. But latter changed his mind because wanted to have a child first.
A bold and brave hunter like Odewale was not ease to come across in the universe or the whole of Yoruba Tribes because of his unique fighting acumen. Odewale was strong, active and dynamic with mystical powers and native wisdom for great insights!
He was endows and blessed with natural skills and war strategies that can beat the enemy's hands-down completely. Odewale was a master to several local hunters and warriors in Yoruba land during his life time. He had what it takes to fight battles both physically and spiritually.
In all rounder, Odewale was a God's gift and great blessing to his generation. A warfighter like Odewale was rare and uncommon. He was a supper hunter and great warrior that had wisdom, with the fear of God. Odewale was an epitome of traditional power and native medicine.
Despite, Odewale never brags about his achievements in the community. He was highly humble and easy going in the society for reasons. Except when fighting at the battle front, Odewale was never caught fighting or quarrelling with any person in the neighbourhood. He was fond of laughing and smiling as a happy man with everybody. The children loved staying with him because he loved the kids and demonstrated it all the time. He loved telling stories, folk and tales to the pupils at noon night time.
Odewale was a man of the people. He understood intensely that the swiftest person does not always win the race, or the strongest man the battle, and the wise men are often poor, and skilful men are not necessarily famous.
But, it is all by chance, by happening to be at the right at the right time. A man never knows when he is going to run into bad luck. He is like a fish caught in a net or bird caught in snare.
The only but in Odewale's life was the lack of a child. He does not have a son to claim or replace as the gallant hunter of Ajia when old and passed to the great beyond. As good as he was, no child to be proud of like others in the community.
Undoubtedly, a brave man without an offspring will not have any replacement at demise. This was very vexing and troublesome. A man that works and acquired fortunes in a big way without a biological son or daughter does not have a good life but miserable. It is ataboo among the Yoruba tribes to be born without replacing yourself by given birth to another child! A barren woman is a miserable person among the people.
God the most supreme does what He likes the way He likes it done. And who have the got to query him?
The lack of a son as a hunter made Odewale to be confused and downcast. Laughter cannot mask a heavy heart. When the laughter ends, the grief remains!
When the wise ran into serious trouble he becomes a fool.
At a point, Odewale planned to kill himself by committing suicide. He was completely frustrated and confused about life generally. He had a great trouble from so many quarters as a result of his sterility.
Odewale severely confessed several times that he wanted to have a child like his parents gave birth to him as their son.
The worst part of the matter, six women out of the seven wives that he got married to and lived under his roof deserted him without any notice. They all got married to new husbands and gave birth to children. Two of them were blessed with set of twins' babies!
The entire negative, deformities, with wrong statements and free derogative comments had spread beyond Ajia Village about the Odewale's in ability to fill the tummy of a woman with child and not food or any other things.
Indeed, Odewale had fortunes, money, fame, prestige and recognition in abundant. He lacked nothing else but a bonfire child.
On blazing the trail of the Oluode of Ajia, the challenges of life being faced seriously by Odewale was not hidden. Age was no longer at his favour.
He could fight a war. He had the unique ability plus bravery to kill any kind of animal in the forest. He was a man to beholdin terms of the physical body built-up. However, Odewale have no child to be proud of in the society. What makes a prisoner to be joyfully dancing at market square?
Truly, Odewale had money, but having a child is better and more honourable! The having of a son is far better than all the fames of this world. To be candid, men with a child have the hope of experiencing a befitting burial at demise when aged or old.
No wine can be used for making pegs to hang up pots and pans again. All they are good for is fuel and even so, they burn but poorly. So they are useless both before and after being put in the fire.
Painfully, it was quiet unfortunate that Odewale issue persisted for a long time. What a big shame to a man of honour? Odewale became a laughing stock in Ajia village.
It was sadden and of sincere concern that while many men in Ajia community were rejoicing and spending their fortunes on their children who will be there for them in the nearest future. Odewale had non to boost off. He was aggrievedly affected all the time.
A man without a responsible child will surfer at old age. In addition, in the Yoruba cultural belief, men work or acquire property solely because of the well-being of his children in particular.
In the case of Odewale, the most popular warrior in Ajia, but a childless-hunter. No child to bequeath his heritage at death.
Men are terrible and wicked! Only God can bail the innocent.
The drama of childlessness unfolded like lightening. Words of it blazed across the village like a fresh flashed fire in dry season.
It became a topic for discussion at homes and in the market places. It was subject of conversationamong the congregations, forums and platforms in Ajia village and other locations like Akanran, Idi-iroko, Jegede, Olunloyo, Araromi, Egbeda, Gbada-Efon, Adegbayi, Osegere, Oluwo, Amuloko, Iyana-Offa, Oke-Elesin, Jaago, Badeku, Olorunsogo, Odeyale, and Oremeji-Agugu!
In some quarters, people were saying that Odewale had exchanged his manhood for fame: '' How could a strong man like Odewale be without a child? ''
'' Something fetish must be behind it''
The villagers concluded.
Undoubtedly, Odewale battled the troubles of frantic barrenness with disturbances of mind. Life became hectic and frenzied. He was terribly sad, sober and felt remorse. He became a miserable hunter and the husband to many wives without a single child to claim from the matrimony
The stigma of not having baby arouse and earnest terrible thoughts of depression in Odewale: a gallant and agile militant of not! Life became tasteless a painful to the great warrior of his generation.
Meanwhile, a lovely woman named Abike stood closely with Odewale in his chaotic problem as a good wife despite the odds. She was the Queen of forest in beauty and appearance!
What a highly delighted and peace- loving wife? A better life woman, and good companion of notes for Odewale. Yes, no matter what you may be facing in this world; all the people cannot desert you. You will be left with few who will stand by as ordained by destiny.
You can never be alone if you can put your trust in God! Odewale had the faith that God will answer his prayers one day and crown his life with a child. Out of all the decorations a man may be decorated with; the decoration of having children remains the best. One of the best gifts from God is the blessing of a kid. The apex of honour is the halving of a child.
Abikeconsoled and assured Odewale of a baby through her by the grace of God. She was a woman with mission and vision. Abike was truly a loyal wife. She was worth more than precious gems. They were made for each other. They marital bliss was without much rancour.
Odewale brought Abike home as wife after one of the hunting expedition that took him forty-one days inside the Emo Forest.
Abike was beautiful and gentle. She was never a crabby, cranky or quarrelsome woman! She was regarded as the Queen of forest in beauty and appearance.
When Abike was taken as wife and confidant, things changed positively for Odewale economically. His wealth and fame boomed like a wide fire. It was as if God opened the dews of heaven and the fats of earth for Odewale.
Abike stayed with Odewale for good seven years before she became pregnant. Really, Abike was apple of the eyes for Odewale. Abike's charms and her tender embraced and got Odewale satisfied.
The pregnancy of Abike was misery to the people. They were astonished and excited. It was amazing and marvellous. The good people of Ajia rejoiced with Odewale for the pregnancy and wished Abike a safe delivery.
They were extremely glad that the spell of barrenness in Odewale's life removed and the reproached washed off at last. The glamour and bad news being spread before about the Oluode of Ajia became calm for a while.
Tough times never last but tough people do! If you are facing any challenges of life, endure it for a while. It will soonest be a forgotten issue. Nothing is made to last forever including the hassles of the moment. If the masquerade is pursuing you, strive to run father with endurance, the mascot will soon get tired of running after you.
The pregnancy ofAbike was by God's favour and the validation of divine powers!
After two and half years of carrying the miracle pregnancy, Abike peacefully gave birth to a mysterious bouncing baby girl for Odewale named Odebunmi.
Odewale, the father too knew that Odebunmi was a child of miracle and a special gift from God because of the meaningful signs, symbols and marks that donated her skin and body at birth. Also, some weird and wonderful happens bounded the birth during her delivery.
When born, the baby opened her eyes instantly unlike the common eight days after. Whenever anybody observed and talked anything about her. The amazing girl gazed at the fellow as a sign of confirmation that she was aware that you are referring to her in your discussions.
The mystery of Odebunmi's birth goes this way:
The very day she was born until; for three days after; there was a heavy down - pour of rain; despite in the dry season;
Also, the specially trained dog that Odewale goes about with named '' Aimasiko'' for most of his hunting expeditions; got vanished miraculously when the mid-wives brought Odebunmi inside the house. The dog started barking furiously, ran out of the building and vanished. They traces of its where about could not be traced up till today.
Unknown to any one, a clay lamp with palm oil for burning the light nonstop for seven days was discovered at the edge of the mat where Odebunmi was placed. The lamp vanished on the seven day!
The gallant and beautiful girl was a good specimen of Odewale. The naming-ceremony was super and fabulous to taste.
At last, God turned the blemish of Odewale to glory. Nothing could be used in exchange for the joy and deep happiness created to the family and friends of Odewale when Abike gavebirth to Odebunmi.
The whole of Ajia community rambles and shambles at the great good news. It created a brand new chapter in the history and story of The Oluode of Ajia!
The people of Ajia were thrown into wild jubilations in appreciation of what happened. The bouncing baby girl was warmly and gladly welcome. A new baby that was long expected arrived safely, all glories to the creator that made it happen miraculously.
The scrods of people from far and near trooped out from different directions to celebrate with Odewale at the mega- naming ceremony.
Nothing sort of celebrations are expected for an occasion of this nature. People were full of joy. The young and old, men and women including the expected mothers with babies graced the arena rejoicing with Abike and Odewale.
The prominent members of Ajia descendants association from home and abroad came to dine and wine with the celebrants on that day. Several gifts were given to the chid and the mother.
The occasion was bombarded by hunters and warriors of significant; and other dignities. The ceremony was lavishly celebrated.
Odewale's gladness over the birth of Odebunmi was without any limitation. He was cash ready to spend his last kobo for the naming ceremony held in Ajia, the homeland of his fathers.
When money speaks, all other things must fold hands. We surpass or senior ourselves; is not a mere talk with Odewale.
If not, only the blind would not see that the child of an elephant is bigger than the rat!
The Alaafin of Oyo kingdom sent a representative with his staff of office to grace the occasion from Oyo kingdom! This was a sign of honour and recognition to the Oluode of Ajia and a prominent Yoruba warrior!
Indeed, Odewale's associates and friends from far andnear graced the occasion. The naming rites was done for the baby - girl. It was historical and in grand style and memorable. It was jubilation galore.
Unlike others, an elephant and a lion were killed for the celebrations; including assorted busy meats with rocky bites of roasted corns and palm-wine at the village square!
For the sake of Odebunmi alone, the young girls of Ajia danced the dance of Awurebe; while the men folks shook their bodies to Afro-Juju music with Apala dance without shame or mess.
The bent traditional caps on the heads of old men who were not absent at the festive, were talking different stories to the congregation: Faaji Laawa!
Both men and women of Ajia rejoiced and took part in all the funs of the day. They were well comforted. People had the ample chance to feast out of the abundance of Odewale's wealth bounty.
The air of elegance and celebrations filled the land of Ajia. Big tones of joy rang loud and clear with hero-tic rites for the gift of God and heritage. Guests were treated to a sumptuous feast that created marvellous, delicious and strongly cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Nobody in the whole of Ajia community had ever spent that much on naming ceremony of a baby girl.
Yes,
'' When an elephant is killed; different kinds of cutlass are usually engaged for the slaughtering''- says a Yoruba adage!
The famous Ajangila: a great magician, treated guests to series of magical feasts that never been performed before in the community. They caroused till day-break! Every one that attended the naming party galore was highly excited.
Really, nothing will be too much to celebrate the naming of a long awaited child by the wealthy Odewale. In fact, when there is money more than enough with arich man; there may not be any display of wealth that cannot be considered as the best option.
The joy of having a kid at last over flown in the heart of Odewale who mercilessly sprayed his money lavishly on the naming christen of Odebunmi without any regrets or restrictions.
Odewale was happy saying:
'' I know now that I'm a fortunate man and life is so great to me''
Odewale and Odebunmi were pioneers, pacesetters and Trail Blazers in Ajia and environs.
The birth of Odebunmi and the naming christening made Odewale to forget his misery at that period. The Oluode of Ajia could shout a victory.
Unfortunately, Abike could not live long. She died ten days after Odebunmi was born. The death was untimely and disheartened. It was painful to lose a devoted wife like that! What a grief!
To Odewale, it was sudden but he took courage and accepted the fate. He had unflinching committed to make Odebunmi great in life as a daughter. The only statement from bike before she gave up ghost: '' Odewale, please take good care of my daughter well''
In the past, Yoruba people do not give much attention to girls. Before Odebunmi was born only boys recruit were skilfully trained as hunters and warriors in Yoruba land.
The dynamic and passionate Odewale was the first warrior to have fondly cherished girl mentored and highly trained sound and rock solid as hunter in Ajia village or in the whole of Yoruba nation.
Odebunmi was able to live up to expectations. And, over the years; she carved a niche for herself in the community and other places as recorded. She grew faster and better.
Really,
''the off-spring of a lion will be brave, bold and fearless like a lion'' says a Yoruba adage.
Odewale loved her daughter like the eyes. She gave her all that could make life rosy as a citizen and professional hunter. She was trained on how to learn, live and lead as frontline warrior; with strong believe in culture. The devotion to her was unfeigned and undeniable!
Odebunmi, the daughter of Abike grew up to be a brave bold and strong. She naturally inherited from her mother beauty and kindness. She eventually became prominent militant hunter before and after the demise of her father?Odewale-the Oluode of Ajia kingdom.
An astonishing political trajectory with several badges decorations, honours, fame and awards.
She was a feathered war captain woman throughout her time.
They were tight friends and associates with The Alajia of Ajia
Odebunmi was also given western education under the tutelage of Pa Makinde and Chief Theo-phlious Akinyele, one of the frontline educationist from Ajia, and luscious sons of the Ajia community.
Odebunmi: The Brave Woman Hunter
Chapter Two:
The Forest of Emo in Ajia Village
Odebunmi grew up in Ajia village. She was well-baked and trained as brave woman hunter. She was highly skilled and gifted.
Odebunmi was a peculiar daughter of Odewale. All her behaviours proofed to be like Odewale-the Oluode of Ajia! She was a beautiful girl to behold among her peers.
Odebunmi was bold and dynamic lad. She would not do anything without praying to God to the almighty God. She believed that no success or achievement could come without the approval of God; the creator of heaven and earth.
Actually, Odebunmi was a girl with brighter future. She heard a lot of terrible stories about the forest of Emo in Ajia village.
One day,Odebunmi decided to visit the forest of Emo as a hunter. It was a mark of distinction for any huntsman to be at the forest for hunting expeditions. You cannot claim the status of higher ranked first class-hunter and warrior if you have not been to Emo forest in those days.
Odebunmi followed blindly the bold steps of her late father as a brave and bold woman hunter. She never absorbed or deviated from the instructions of her dear beloved parent. She was ever ready for any battle, whether in the forest or at the battle field.
Nothing stops the lion from parading the forest for meat. The father thought her several things on how to kill animals in the forest. She had the confident of a professional militant.
She possessed many charms that can be used to fight in the battlefield or when in contact with wild animals or ghost in the forest.
Odebunmi was exposed to the hidden secret of hunting and fighting wars by her father Odewale. She could recall bathing with different prepared herbs and concoctions for days with incantations to make her a strong hunter that can face life battle anytime.
Odebunmi was ever ready and fully aware of the authentic tactics involved in hunting and fighting wars. Also, the father on several occasions before he died do share the deeper secrets of life that were amazing with Odebunmi based on few of her past encounters with strange objects, stubborn, dangerous and terrible wild animals and the wicked demons. And how he conquered! All the lessons were noted, abided and imbibed by Odebunmi.
Histories have it that the poor people of Ajia were under the siege of some demons. There was a forest not too far from Ajia village called ''Emo forest.'' The thick unfriendly forest was named ''Emo''because the entailed terrible, chaotic and strange things that does happen to who ever visited the avenue for anything. The forest was a forest of terror. There was so much gloom and doom inside the forest. It was assumed to be the ponderous territory for demons and ghosts. It is also known as the forest of voices.
Inside the forest, strange fabulous voices could be heard from the big trees and animals!
Emo forest is an attic to hunters. It takes a strong and very powerful human being to visit Emo forest and returned without any causality or unharmed. The place was a chaotic forest of troubles, havoc and mouth-opening incidents. The jungle was made up of rascal and no-nonsense black- sheep.
In fact, if the hunter is not double sure of himself, he dare not visit Emo forest of terror with cluster of trees. There were authentic as well as cooked, bull stories about the forest. Everything about the forest was terrifying, miserable and unpleasant.
Uncountable folks who got to the forest by mistake were discovered missed and messed up and they never returned to Ajia village again. The worst part of it, nobody could locate their graves or dead bodies! What a terrible place for dreadful experiences.
It was gathered in the past that Emo forest harbours some stubborn demons and wicked evil spirits that were tormenting and sucking blood of human beings with terrible dark power siphoning blessings mercilessly without favour.
There was too much gloom with doom around Emo jungle in those days! The people of Ajia prayed sincerely and hope a saviour will one day surface to free and deliver them from the siege of bondage and the spell of troubles they wallowed in as innocent citizens.
Despite the odds, the Emo forest, like other forests have many functions of valueto both humanity and to nature itself. Nothing is wasted in the forest; the trees, leaves, the roots and the woods. Everything is useful if you have the great insights and knowledge to use them responsibly.
No wonder that a common adage says:
'' Wealth is located in the forest''
Emo forest is a place of wealth deposits too. But only a gallant individual can tap the riches of Emo forest.
Odewale was one of the notable rich individuals who got the wealth of Emo forest in many ways. He does enter the forest at least three times yearly in his life time without any hindrances, hassles or disturbers. He was quite a versatile hunter to envy.
Where other hunters could not visit, Odewale could travel to without harm. There is no go area for the lion inside the forest. Odewale's case could be likened to a person thrown inside the furnace and returned alive not burnt. Even without any odour or smell of fire. All these factors made him so much of an enigma among the hunters in those days.
Odebunmi usually appreciate the mighty hand of God and those of gods that backed her father. She was used to celebrating her father annually with a feast of sacrifices!
Nature is full of wonders. Odewale was a wondrous hunter that Ajia village was blessed with. He was an exemplary man in the society and a leader with repute. The bird that will stand upside-down like bat is scare in the forest. The sickness of lion cannot be compared with that of goat or dog!
No hunter can compete, imitate or copy Odewale during his life time simply because all his hunting approaches were unique and too complicated to understand ordinarily. Odewale was a peculiar hunter and warrior. There were frantic mystical powers that madehis war exploits possible.
Some of Odewale's historical records of excellence performances could not be made or marched by most of the living hunters and vigilantes in Ajia and its environs.
A family man and highly skilled hunter and professionally trained warrior like Odewale were uncommon among the people of Yoruba land.
''The bird like peacock is very scarce in the forest despite the fact that ostriches were regarded as the king of birds ''
''Lion remained the king of forest anytime.''
Odebunmi, the only woman hunter from Ajia usually claimed to be like her father '' the daughter of lion is also a lion '' was her common saying anytime it comes to confronting challenges or going extra miles in the hunting expeditions.
In Ajia, one of the criteria for claiming the status or title of Oluode of Ajia was to visit the Emo forest and return alive. Therefore, Odebunmi wanted to be like her father. She planned to visit Emo forest very soon.
A swimmer is never afraid of entering or swimming inside water.
No matter how plenty the pool may be is just a playing avenue for the duck!
When an elephant enters the forest, everywhere must tremble.
'' If Odewale could visit Emo forest and returned, I Odebunmi would experience the same''
Odebunmi often said to the people of Ajia joyfully. She was proud to be the bonfire daughter of Odewale all the time. The people of Ajia also respected her for so many activities as a woman hunter in the history.
At different times, Odebunmi would made people realized that is never difficult for a hen to reach the spot where its eggs are laid.
The dangerous trap that planned to prevent an elephant from entering the river; both of them would go together and get baptized inside water.
Nothing can stop the sun from rising at thebeginning of a new day. Nothing stops the gong from producing sound. The sun will rise no matter how prolonged the noon may appear in the sky.
In life, those who are determined attain success without hindrances. Every obstacle can be turned to a stepping stone.
Yes, no matter how delayed the day may be, evening will never seized to show-up. What a plain truth that cannot be denied or disputed?
Odebunmi had the confident!
'' One day, I will visit the Emo forest like my father did'' claimed Odebunmi.
She also confessed:
'' When a hen enters the bush, her returns are usually without any attachment or bruise. Therefore, I Odebunmi will return from Emo forest unharmed''
Due to her absolute determination to visit Emo forest, Odebunmi did not bother herself with any of the negative, terrible and threatened stories and information that the people of Ajia were talking about the Emo forest.
She was resolute and nothing could change her mind.
'' If one is sure of his iron-rod; you only use it to strive the fore head to be double sure'' says Yoruba adage.
Mere talking or holding the gun does not make you real soldier until you have visited the war front and fought.
''Action speaks louder than voice'' says an adage.
Odebunmi like her father believed that every mountain can be climbed; with high resolutions, endurance and patience, a climber can get to the top of mountain Everest or Kilimanjaro!
As a highly intelligent woman hunter with fresh ideas; Odebunmi had the ultimate plan to visit Emo forest like her father; but she kept the notion within her mind alone. People are equally terrible; not Emo forest alone!
If you have a good plan to execute that will change your destiny; endure to keep it within yourself. In life today, those who talked out their plans suffer theconsequences.
Men of the world are wicked. They are prepared to trash any good intension without apology!
Those who exposed their dreams or vision like Joseph of the Holy Bible do not find it ease any longer. That is human being for you. Therefore, keep your plans to yourself until it is done.
A Yoruba adage says: ''Children of the world are not wishing you Success; only your destiny would determine it''
As a woman with native wisdom and understanding, Odebunmi did not proclaim her planned visit to Emo forest. She kept the news of the mission within herself.
As part of the preparation; for complete eight months Odebunmi went for series of rites and rituals to be well equipped for the serious priority task ahead of time.
Her preparation and the readiness was more than enough.
Odebunmi did not just planned to visit the forest of terror. She got herself equipped spiritually and physically like a soldier going for the Biafra war!
What is worth doing at all is worth doing well. More so that Emo forest was a dark avenue that usually took days if not months for visitors to visit and return. A visit to such a place should never be seen as child play or be taken for granted.
The only caution was that, not all the native hunters that visited Emo forest do return. Usually one out of ten do come back to give testimony of the experiences!
Going to Emo forest by any human being is like entering a '' One Chance'' vehicle. Only God can determine the final outcome or destination.
The idea of entering Emo forest is just like going on a journey of no-return for many combatant hunters in those days. It can be likened to having a feast with the devil. Those who dare such must have a verylong spoon. Odebunmi was not bothered about the intrigues heard about Emo forest.
However, nothing can stop the lion from entering the forest was the strong aim of Odebunmi.
Really, the river is calm without fear to entertain; it is only the swimmers that should exercise caution. To enter Emo forest you must shine your eyes well.
''But no matter what it may be; the mountain that the strongman climbed with stressful experience, the daughter of God will walk over freely and offer offering sacrifices in return''
Odebunmi assured herself day and night. She was obviously happy and proud of her exploits as a woman hunter and trained warrior by an expert.
'' One day will be one day, I shall visit Emo forest and return to tell my people an interesting story''
Odebunmi could reply to the dwellers of Ajia village anytime they discussed about Emo forest.
To her, the purposed individual can conquer the world with the creative ability and the dynamic resources that are passively buried in nature.
Odebunmi also heard about Odewale's great exploits during the Ekiti-Parapo's war and his visits to Emo forest when alive.
From that moment, Odebunmi was searching for the ripe time to demonstrate her inborn ability and inherent potentials the daughter of successful brave hunter ever lived in Yoruba land.
Truly, ''what is not used at all is useless!'' says a popular Yoruba adage.
Odebunmi: The Brave Woman Hunter
Chapter Three:
The Roaring Lion Killed
It is better to make hay while the sun shines; if one is desperate in witnessing a new dawn in life.
One evening, Odebunmi left home for hunting expedition at Erimo Mountain a few kilometresaway from Ajia village to explored issues around. This was part of her steady fastness, gargantuan schemes and readiness to visit Emo forest.
Odebunmi believed that people will even teach you what you have known already; if you failed in the first instant to apply the knowledge with you!
She took some concoctions to equip herself for the assignment.
Erimo Mountain is a lion skull-liked rocky place with levelled top like a plateau in shape. There amazing big trees and other marvellous objects on the top of the peculiar rocky mountain. Hawks and Eagles do reside on top of Erimo Mountain to remove their old feathers for new ones during the season.
Erimo Mountain was regarded as hotspots for lions and other wild animals. The mountain stands out in the whole of Yoruba land for many reasons. The apex could be with tremendous smokes and ringing of bells very early in the day.
When you view the Mountain from a far distance it would appear as if someone was burning the bush with hot consuming fire. The Erimo Mountain top is like a fountain.
On several occasions, heavy windfall or storm would occupy the mountain with persistent stench thick smoke and hazards which made it an extremely dangerous avenue for people to visit.
Odebunmi risked her life by visiting the Erimo Mountain that evening.
However, therein on Erimo Rock enshrined big and wild animals like Lion, Buffalo, Gorilla, Tiger Hartebeest, Leopard, Ape, Python, Elephant, Antelope, Hyena, Wolf, Giraffe, Deer, Monkey Yak and Zebra including birds of different kinds such as Eagle, Hawk, Bat, Ostriches, Peacock, Parrot, Vulture, Ravens etc.
As a result, the mountain could not be ignored by hunters. A place where dead bodies abound; the vultures will not be too far away!
The Erimo Mountain was marvellous and well valued by the good people of Ajiacommunity. They believed that the mountain served as defence against the attack of enemies and also a place of refuge like ''The Olumo Rock of Abeokuta''.
The ancestors of Ajia cherished Erimo Mountain and were proud of it. They do offer sacrifices in form of rituals to the Rock Spirit that lived inside the mountain. The indigenes of Ajia believed that the spirit living inside Erimo rock was watching and protecting over them day and night like an angel.
Also, the source of main streams supplying water for Ajia and environs came from Erimo Mountain top like the water fall of Kanji dam.
It was a place of attractions as tourism centre for visitors from far and wide who are highly motivated by the natural works of nature displaced on Erimo Mountain.
The mountain was famous throughout Yoruba land as the tallest rocky mountain full and dotted with various amazing images and objects of nature. Together with the occasional rumblings of thunder and lightning!
Some traditionalist does perform rituals of different kinds and rites on the mountain top. One of the steps in the installation of The Alajia of Ajia is the climbing of Erimo mountain top for some rituals. If a wrong person was chosen, the person would die on the mountain top instantly.
Also, religious people from the white garment churches often climb the Erimo mountain top for prayers and other spiritual activities. Nobody could be found on the mountain without a mission or purpose.
However, the visitors trekking the Erimo Mountain or climbing the rock must be watchful of the gullies and dead-traps that are spread on the hill top.
Erimo Mountain was a natural gift of nature and blessing to the Ajia people. The Mountain is unique and special in physical appearance with amazing top. It looked like the headof lion when observed from far distance by tourists and visitors. As a result, Erimo Mountain was referred to as: The Lion Skull Rock!
What a beautiful work of nature to behold? Erimo Mountain is a combination of rocky hills, waterfalls and forest! It could be seen as source of life to the people of Ajia.
There were other mysteries attached to Erimo Mountain that made it a rally-point for august visitors from different parts of Yoruba land and beyond.
Almost on daily basis, flames and heavy smokes could be seen coming out of the Mountain top like volcano which was assumed to be the hot-fire made by the devilish spirit dwelling inside the rock of Erimo.
As a result, if a hunter is not strong, brave or bold enough, he should not attempt climbing or coming near Erimo Mountain for any adventurous.
A sensible hunter watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them. The simpleton never looks and suffers the consequences.
Despite the constrains, Odebunmi eventually got to the top of Erimo Mountain with a mission and purpose. It was after few hours of chaotic cringle, crawling and climbing.
It was so tough, tedious and challenging for her as a woman hunter with so many constraints and bruise. It was like running the race of survival with global challenges.
The stubborn-will and determination of Odebunmi to climbed and reached Erimo mountain top was to search for a lion to capture.
By killing a lion as a hunter would give her a better rank and status. A wise youth makes hay while the sun shines.
As Odebunmi was crawling and climbing the Erimo rocky mountain with grit and wit; it was like chewing with a sore tooth or trying to run on a broken foot.
Her ears picked the slightest whisper or sound. She began to havesome strange feelings coupled with thick darkness that surrounded the environment despite the bright flood light on her fore-head. Odebunmi was at alert and insist to move on without stopping.
Through the cracks of bushes, she saw a wild roaring lion from far distance. The roaring lion was approaching Odebunmi's direction profusely like a hungry and wounded animal ready to attach and revenge.
The king's fury is like that of a roaring lion. This was an hour of opportunity for the brave woman hunter to strike. Odebunmi who was double sure of her skills and performances prompt into actions fast. She uttered some incantations before stretching her gun to rained-bullets at the roaring lion!
Straight at the target, Odebunmi shot the roaring lion down instantly without remedy. She was very happy, excited and highly over whelm for getting down the roaring lion the first time.
Without wasting time, Odebunmi quickly rushed to the spot where the shot lion was in agony, groan in pain. Odebunmi took out a sharp hatchet from her bag to do the finishing with the lion.
The lion was conquered and put to complete silence by Odebunmi's bravery. The roaring lion could not escape or survive the encounter. Odebunmi, the brave woman hunter was able to silent the roaring lion that night.
Surprisingly, when Odebunmi joyfully attempted to drag the stone death animal into a safe spot for butchering with trembling hands!
Something weird and wonderful happened; a strange image from nowhere suddenly appeared to grab the dead-lion from Odebunmi.
She was aghast. It was the spirit of Erimo Mountain unknown to Odebunmi. He has been creating awful disturbances with humming. The unusual being mentioned the real name of Odebunmi loudly with a guttered horrible voice three times:
'' Odebunmi! Odebunmi!! Odebunmi!!!''
The echo was intensive and terrible like quake ran far and wide.If not for the stoniness of Odebunmi; the heavy sound from the voice could make an ordinary person quiver or go dumb and deaf!
The unstoppable Odebunmi was frightened but battle ready. She was not troubled or fumbled. She ensured her gun could do justice to whatever appears.
The atmosphere became unpleasant. The bad odour from the strange image polluted the air completely. The scent could kill if inhaled for long.
The Erimo mountain spirit told Odebunmi boldly during the encounter carrying the feelings of vengeance:
'' All the animals and birds on Erimo mountain are my bonfire children. Therefore, you have no right to kill or carry it''
Those were the highly shocking bullying words she heard. She stood quietly. The words rang clearly.
What a nonsense statements from the ghost. Odebunmi felt dirty and disgust. How come?
Actually, Odebunmi was frightened and trembled on sighting the terrible Erimo rock spirit on that ugly day. However, she later took courage by demonstrating the boldness of gallant hunter. They were about to fight a terrible fight!
In the clash of lions; what will crush?
Interestingly, Odebunmi promptly made some quick utterances; she blew something urgently into the air against the eccentric image. She answered the Erimo Mountain spirit bravely!
Odebunmi turned abruptly and blurted out with haunted eyes.
'' I have killed this lion. It is my meat. I will takes it away''
She exclaimed making conscious and malicious attempt to get rid of the killed lion. She naturally became angry.
'' On the mountain, the crow is about to beat the hatching sparrow. A big fight is in the offing! ''
Inevitably, on hearing what Odebunmi said; the Erimo Mountain spirit demonstrated some disruptive behaviour. He became bitterly angry and highly violent. He rushed at her furiously to launch a great attack for avenge profusely.
Terrible! He squirmed uneasilyand started bulling to snatch the killed lion from Odebunmi. No way and no room for nonsense with the brave, bold woman hunter. She did not let-go at all.
When the river toad is well fed, you will find it jumping about without caution!
Without wasting time, the no nonsense Odebunmi prowess fired the Erimo mountain spirit in the midst of acrobatic display. The terrible gun-shot entered the strangled image body and pier furiously on him heavily. The big bully screamed, shamble, tumble and fell down like the blast of trailer truck tyre!
With the stunning blow, the funny ghost screamed, staggered terribly. He began shaking like a hen inside the rain. He choked like a dog with cry of agony.
The demon was chequered. To Odebunmi greatest surprise, the moment his body touched the earth, the ghost disappeared with heavy roaming noise. The battle was over! Odebunmi was baffled greatly. She was awe about the ordeal.
With Odebunmi's hunting wizard, she was able to blast the Erimo mountain spirit that day. It created positive experience and exposure of the negative myths about Erimo Mountain. Also, it became a stimulus and stepping stone to greater endeavours and achievement.
In fact, Odebunmi was scared. She was caught unaware that such experience could be.
Thereafter, Odebunmi strenuously slaughtered the killed lion into small pieces and packed everything inside a sack bag. She rejoiced and expressed her gratitude to God for the successful outing and victory over the ghost.
Thereafter, Odebunmi made her returned back to Ajia for rest. She had a gladden heart with a big lesson. Odebunmi discovered that:
There's hope for the living. It is better to be a live dog than a dead lion!
She girded her lions on the occasion and wet home stronger than before.
In life, the law of destination is real. Yourjourney to the top will be faster it you have a clear idea of where you are going!
Odebunmi had a cleared vision of killing a lion. She maximized her potentials and proven the potentials as highly gifted human hunter with peculiar strategies.
Odebunmi, the brave woman hunter climbed the Erimo mountain and successfully returned as a gallant hunter to Ajia. She fought and won both the wild animal and the terrible ghost of the Erimo rock.
The experience and terrible encounters, witnessed often by hunters in the bush are usually terrible and unpleasant. It cannot be forgotten in a hurry. No wonder that the Yoruba proverb says:
''If the hunter should consider the rigor passed through inside the forest, when they got home, they will not like to share the meat of killed animals with anybody''
In life, you cannot be greedy and gain popularity or be famous. Misers have no friends but foes! Sharing make things to be better no matter how. Whatever is shared will go round and round!!!
What is available is enough to go round. It is nice to be generous.
Long time ago, Odebunmi have been taught by her nice late father Odewale-the Oluode of Ajia to always give a potion of killed meat from hunting to others around. It is a form of scarification or rituals indirectly.
'' What is shared with other people will not be finished!'' Odewale would always say to his people when alive as the ''Oluode of Ajia'' village.
Probably, the sweet meat of the amazing roaring lion was too much for Odewale alone to eat or consume. Others will equally partake definitely in the bounty or free buffet when she got home.
The successful return of a hunter from the bush is obviously confirmed by the killed animals. The day a hunter got home without bush meat, the wife will not prepare sweet soup for dinner!
''Give me and I give you'' is the cry of toad at the stream side today!
While Odebunmi in big relieve, was piloting her way back to Ajia village after the horrible encounter with the Erimo mountain spirit. There was a turn of event again!
Another trouble surfaced unexpectedly. Odebunmi, the brave, bold and gallant warrior lost her routes completely. She found it difficult to get to her roots despite all efforts. Even though not blind, she could not walk straight to where Ajia could be visible any longer.
Her case was like the usual Radio public announcement about an aged man who left home but could not returned to the appropriate location again. If something else has not occurred, elders never lose sight of returning home.
It was unusual; Odebunmi got stranded on her way back from the Erimo mountain top. It was extremely difficult to locate her way home from the venue of the rendezvous. She stayed without solution for five solid days as a result.
Odebunmi was just wandering around like the Israelites on their way to the Promised Land! As if blind, Odebunmi was just rotating around the mountain top and reaching the same spot for days.
The first night, she could not sleep. She was exhausted and frustrated on the mountain all alone. When no food to eat; the condition became unbearable.
Therefore, in the night she roasted the killed animal in hot fire. She took and eat from the taste fried roasted lion meat to inoculates and sustain herself.
A lazy hunter won't even dress the game she gets while hunting, but the diligent makes good use of everything found!
However, on the fifty day, she got tired of piloting her way back home despite making frantic and tremendous efforts as a hunterwith wider charms and incantations. She resolved to fate.
Indeed, life has different dimension. There are four dimensions to a solid object like the square board!
Odebunmi was trapped and confused. She began to recount her past experiences.
At a stage, Odebunmi prayed and called on the gods of her father for rescue.
When faced with the challenges of life without solution; praying could be the best option to consider. If we can pray, something unexpected can happen!
She couldn't stay awake any longer. She dozed off and slept under an Iroko tree using one big rugged-stone as pillow despite the strains involved.
With the day-gun by her side, she had deep sound sleep like a newly born baby!
However, in her sleep, she had a meaningful dream. Her late father Odewale held her hand and showed the right route back home from Erimo mountain top.
When Odebunmi woke up and discovered it was a dream. She thereafter followed exactly where her father showed her in the dream.
Odebunmi rose up as though awakened like a mighty man aroused by wine. She carried her meat on the head inside the sack; held her gun in one hand like brave bold strong militant hunter back to life.
When she trekked for about ten, Odebunmi got the right route back to her root!
Odebunmi: The Brave Woman Hunter
Chapter Four:
The Encounter with Koluko Spirit
Since ambition and death are alike, both are never satisfied. Odebunmi, the famous first female hunter ever lived followed the footsteps of her late father Odewale in all ways. The foot-mark of a giant will be on the rock.
For a longtime, Odebunmi have been looking forward to visit Emo forest has done by her late father Odewale. What a replica of experience by the adventurous woman hunter! Like father, like the daughter! Nothing can prevent the lion from parading the forest for meat.
Equally, nothing stops the lion from climbing the mountain of terror in search for horror!
There is time for everything. When Odebunmi, the brave woman hunter from Ajia village was ready to visit Emo forest has planned and schemed statistically. She prudently arranged with one of her late fathers' personal assistants to accomplish her for the mission.
She was confident that he would bring the wealth of experience in hunting expeditions to bear during the journey.
A wise man is cautious and avoids dangers but a fool plunges ahead. A person who has not received honour before will name his child: ''honour has troubles''
Odebunmi's reason for the idea of having Alaseju with her as companion was to have somebody who would assist her in the carriage of animals killed inside the Emo forest or other fortunes during the hunting task.
In this world, there are individuals assigned to push you and your dreams to fruition; you must locate and identify such individuals on time if you want to go far. You have a destiny helper waiting for you in life.
'' Alaseju'' was a close associate of late Odewale and prominent hunter in those days. He had whole heartedly followed Odewale in the past to visit Emo forest located few kilometres away from Ajia village.
Alaseju was fathom as hunter with unalloyed loyalty. All the strange stories about Emo forest were not new to him. He was an experienced visitor to Emo forest. Alaseju was also a dynamic hunter and frontier warrior like late Odewale. He loved challenges and supportingothers. He was a native of Iwo town.
Nevertheless, there was a worrisome demon living inside Emo forest known as '' Koluko'' spirit in those days. The terrible Koluko-spirit was one of the strange horrible objects that made Emo forest to be dangerous and full of terrors, unrest, chaos and all sorts of violence.
Many hunters have wander and got wasted by the terribly wicked forest demon. Earnestly, to embark upon any hunting activity successfully inside the popular Erimo forest, the able-hunter must be brave enough to confront or dare Koluko spirit first; without which it will be extremely impossible to make any edge way or operate within the forest.
The innocent people of Ajia have been so intrigued by the demon. Many citizens and villagers in the area remained vulnerable and live in fear.
Koluko, the spirit of horror can afflict any human being that comes across his path. Koluko spirit was regarded as the guiding demon with one-eye. Koluko is the gate keeper for Emo forest with awesome signs. The ghost was so terrible, cruel and recklessly wicked. He made the Emo forest to be hot like furnace for visitors and investors.
Koluko could chase people away; scolding and sparkling weak farmers or timber cutters with terrible wounds or death.
He had killed and butcher several native hunters who dare come his way due to his anger and fury. What a hot tempered forest ghost.
Koluko spirit fought with hurricane-storm to blow away to far distance the enemies or strangers from Emo forest when furious or angry.
Koluko was used to given to eat and digest several severe punishments in form of fried yam to entertain and fed his guests daily and night. He could get them hooked or chained down for days unfed. He sings to such uninvited visitors the common song:
''What theEyes is Seeking for; Is What the Eyes is seeing''
At times, he used long cane made with animal leather to threaten intruder or mercilessly beat the daylight out of strangers who came to his territory.
Whereas, the intruders who had bad luck, got beaten to death by the wicked spirit of Emo forest instead of being chased away ordinarily. An encounter with Koluko is a meeting with horror, pain and with bundles of sorrow wine drinking.
Undoubtedly, Emo forest was a indeed a terrible avenue!
Therefore, if you are not heavily equipped to fight to finish with the deadly, horrible and terrible Koluko ghost just stay away .Do not have the agenda to parade Emo forest in your own interest.
It was Koluko demon that made Emo forest the toughest of all the forests in Yoruba land in those days. Also, if you so cherished yourself and equally do not desire your precious body to get missed, messed up or vanished to unknown destination. You have to think twice on visiting Emo forest!
Those who do not have mothers do not nurse sore at the body back simply because they may not have anyone to assist in the treatment.
You must be tougher and stubborn to encounter and deal with the deadly ghost popularly called ''Koluko''
What a great pity?
Koluko spirit living inside Emo forest had wrecked and conquered several gallant hunters from Ajia village and other locations in Yoruba land.
It was gathered that so many non strong enough hunters who visited the forest have their eyes plucked out by ravens and eaten by vultures.
Do you desire the riches of Emo forest at heart? If so, you must arrest the restless ghost to rill inside Emo forest!
If you can tackle Koluko spirit as at the time of your entrance toEmo forest, then you will have the ample chance to enrich yourself with great fortunes that nature endowed inside the forest.
A successful entrance and peaceful returned out of the forest is a big ticket to riches, wealth and honour. No hunter or individual enters Emo forest and returned without becoming rich or wealthy in those days
Money, Riches and other fortunes are well loaded inside the forest to tap and grab for those who can be inside and come out alive! Emo forest is a forest for fortune making for visitors. You cannot enter Emo forest alive and be poor again under the heaven. It is not possible.
No king reigns and his declared poor! Except under spell, how will the daughter of cloth seller suffer decent fabrics to wear or put on!
A man returned with an ordinary mat from Emo forest and became sticky rich seven days after. The mat was a Mat of Miracle. With the mat every sickness or aliments could be cure no matter how tense.
Odewale: the Oluode of Ajia, among others too; got his riches, money and fame with the strange power to fight as a notable warrior from Emo forest. Even Abike the wife, who gave birth to Odebunmi was from Emo forest! Odebunmi too inherited a big box of gold owned by her mother among other treasures and able-materials that were taken home from Emo forest. Therefore, Emo forest was a land of treasures and great deposited unclaimed!
Who will be the next to make the claim?
Amazingly, Emo forest could be compared to having gold hidden inside the big mouth of a roaring lion.
Who will dare the devil?
In fact, no dog is born right to stare the face of Tiger with hurricane lamp! What a deadly game ever?
Meanwhile, Odebunmi was taught never to goto war without wise guidance; there is safety in many counsellors. ''Rising early makes the road short.''
Now that Odebunmi was resolute to go to hunt at Emo forest with Alaseju one of the companions of her late father Odewale: The Oluode of Ajia village. They were both battle-ready for the clear task ahead of them.
Odebunmi listened vividly to some of the timely advice she got from Alaseju which were lovely as golden apples in a silver basket.
Really, nothing can stop the lion from entering the forest as the confirmed king of Animals.
After all the needed preparation and rituals were completed, only a stupid hunter would not soak himself with fetish charms and prayers.
The type of death killing one's colleagues is sending one a kind of message.
Embarking to visit Emo forest where several powerful men have visited with only a few returnees; such should not be taken for granted or handled like a child play trip.
Both Odebunmi and Alaseju started the do-or died trip to Emo forest. The two partners with strong mission never nursed any fear. They were battle ready for anything!
Odebunmi with Alaseju got to the Emo forest on that fateful day after passing through thick bush for two days without looking back or stopping.
Everywhere was eerie silence all over and life-less. No single noise from any place. It was quite unusual inside a big forest occupied with different objects and natural resources.
The glory of young men is their strength; of old men their experience!
Meanwhile, both Odebunmi and Alaseju expressed gratitude to the Almighty God for his favour and prayed for his support, guidance and protection. They were highly excited to be parading the Emo forest which looked similar to that of ''The forest of Olodumare'' in Oyo kingdom. They walked boldly and bravely attwilight inside the Emo forest.
'' Whatever is inside the forest moaning should stop. If Koluko wants to kill, let the demon go ahead; if not stop the harassment!''
These statements were confessed by the two bold and brave militants who were armed to the neck with charms and other fetish weapon.
They meant business and were battle-ready to dismantle every task that comes along. Odewale and Alaseju never retreated, sweepback or step aside!
Even though they sensed the estranged agents within the environs
As a great observer, Odebunmi noticed that it was their entrance into Emo forest at evening that warranted the oddness.
At a point, Odebunmi instructed Alaseju to stay behind for her under a big Iroko tree that they came across with rowdy noise of strange birds on top of it.
Alaseju yielded to the advice and remained calm. Odebunmi went further inside navigating the Emo forest diligently in search of animals to kill and treasures to pick and possessed.
They had a way of communicating with each other despite the minor separation and division of tasks involved.
Odebunmi was out; bravely parading vigilantly, the serene and unfriendly environment of the Emo forest. It was an adventurous journey. There was no dull moment at all. What is worth doing at all is worth doing well!
To be factual, nothing can prevent the lion from roaming the forest as the king of animals at anytime. It is a plain truth as well that nobody would kill the dog for barking!
Later on, not quiet few hours when Odebunmi was separated from Alaseju. Something odd and terrible happened unexpectedly.
A award noise with heavy storm that gave off an teeth real rhythmic sound was blowing around the spot where Alaseju stool like militant.
It was amazingly wonderful and unexpected. The incident got him completely hands-down instantly. Alaseju was sifted. His chaff of self confidence was left in a sieve of worthless chaff. He was seriously frightened to death.
Alaseju was scared and afraid and unable to utter a single word. He got panic and highly grieved from head to toe.
He automatically became deaf and dumb like someone watching the crowd that were dying for the truth. He was gripped.
Nobody can boast of power at the confrontation of death. You cannot call yourself a man without facing a battle and won gallantly.
Surprisingly, Alaseju was blown off ground by the storm. He tumbled and fumbled three times in the air before fallen down heavily facing the ground.
Alaseju for that moment visited the gate of hell briefly before he returned to life! He was nastily wounded. Most of the fetish and charms inside his pocket were chartered, blown off and flung into different directions.
Emo forest is not a place for sleeping or playing judo-game. They dangers inside cannot be imagined by a mere hunter. Really, only a scanty hunter can boast or boss before the Emo forest spirit.
It was the deadly Koluko demon that appeared like tornado.
Koluko ghost got to the spot where fallen Alaseju was laying dead. He wickedly kicked him anomaly with his leg but the body was life-less.
Koluko spirit thought Alaseju and gone! He vacated the location.
Who will claim to be the killer of elephant before an assassin or hired killer? One boss is more superior to the other really!
After about eight hour, Odebunmi returned to the Iroko tree where Alaseju was keeping vigil; with two killed animals and some treasures including a basket full of raw gold.
However, Odebunmi met Alaseju half-dead groaning in severe pains with the eyes deadly closed but breathing faintly. She was amazed to found him in such a deplorable conditionand wondered what must have led to that?
''A beggar may not have a choice, but we can give the beggar a chance''
Odebunmi was able to rescued Alaseju back to life using some charms and herbs for the treatment immediately. The medications worked and the wounds were treated perfectly well. And within few minutes Alaseju gained life from the comma and made to rest on the Tiger skin-mat under the Iroko tree.
While watching Alaseju like a nurse in the hospital with her patient;
Odebunmi sighted Koluko spirit coming towards her direction furiously like the wounded hungry lion with one eye on his head. Thick and conic flames like fire or smokes were coming from the pointed nose.
Without wasting time, the battle ready Odebunmi stood her ground firmly. She was ready for the attack about to be launched by the stupid ghost.
Immediately, Odebunmi made a bold declaration saying:
''Koluko?I have come to fight with You!''
In reply, the ghost bellowed. An unearthly voice burst from his lips.
Koluko spirit bulgingly: ''I will consume you today and erase your name from the history of hunters''
Odebunmi wanted to hit him with an axe; wound him with double edged sword or shoot him with sharp arrow.
As those thoughts raced widely through her head, she felt hot, miserable and insulted.
Odebunmi burst into laughter and said:
'' I will kill you and cut you into pieces in few minutes from now?! ''
Who will be the champion between the boosting giants that met?
On hearing that, Koluko spirit was extremely angry. In a fury became wild and hot tempted. He foolishly rushed to attack Odebunmi and get rid of her from Emo forest without any further apology.
The battle ready brave woman hunter did not allow a breathing space for Koluko to have his way at all. She pushed and flanged the bully demonfrom her side in great annoyance.
Both Odebunmi and Koluko began to fight vigorously. Heavy dust and storm arose at the battle spot. Where two elephants are fighting; it is the grass that suffers.
Alaseju watched the battle of giants in panic, but never missed any part of the scenes like watching a video or movie.
At the genesis, Odebunmi made a frantic attempt to push Koluko spirit down, because if the demon should fall on the ground, he would die instantly. But found it extremely difficult to act rightly.
A lot of tussles were involved as the two of them struggled to conquer and win the wrestled. The fight and wrestling was non-stop for hours.
It is only where there are no smooth grounds that you argue who is better in a wrestling content of that nature.
The agile no nonsense Odebunmi proved to koluko that he made the greatest mistake to launched an attack against her. Whether the Emo forest belongs to the ghost or Odebunmi, the boundary will spell the champion. It was so hilarious!
Alaseju could not believe that Odebunmi was such a marvellous hunter with unraced traits of agility. He was amazed and panic but never got lost of every scenes and actions demonstrated by the two-fighter inside Emo forest. He like ace Journalist, made a live coverage or on the spot news reports!
At the back of Odebunmi, Alaseju saw a bright heavy light with host of strange warriors supplying needed power and strengthen to Odebunmi while the fights were on like that of Oleku-Ija Ore!!!
A big symbol like rainbow surrounded Odebunmi with a white-dove on her head. Odebunmi became bigger in size like a heavy - weight champion. After the battle, Odebunmi became normal in size.
The terrible fight of two heady- giants lasted about three hours ofhot battles threatened with evil powers and fetish commands. It was a do or die for each of them.
All the attempts by Koluko to disappear at a point were futile by Odebunmi, the brave and bold woman hunter who was waxing stronger and stronger until the fight lasted.
At a stage, Odebunmi was able to lift-up Koluko from the ground. She furiously threw the stupid, stubborn demon away mercilessly into the other side like bulldozer. But, instead to fall down, Koluko stood up on his legs firmly and steady like a cat.
What a marathon clash between two forces with several displays of powers and chartings? The fight dragged on for a while. Both Odebunmi and Koluko did not separate from each other at all. They kept roaming and wrestling from one point to another vigorously and sweating! It was a very serious matter. Koluko never got it so hard like that in the past years. He kept bulling louder and louder.
The stubborn forest spirit could not handle or suppressed Odebunmi's might like others. All his gimmicks and strategies with threats do not pull a hair from Odebunmi's body.
The end of the road for the wicked demon was at sight. Every of Koluko attacks were counter-attacked by the brave and bold Odebunmi without stress.
At second attempt by Odebunmi to lift Koluko ghost, sharp thorns suddenly grew up out of his body miraculously. The head became unstapled. It started tussling and flinging from one side to the other.
As a result, Odebunmi could not hold him again. But she did not limp or stumble in the amazing forest fight.
Smokes and flames surrounded the area like crowd with unusual voices of the forest hailing Koluko.
Two long and sharp horns came out of Koluko head too. As Odebunmi retreats back a bitlike ram. Koluko ran to pin Odebunmi to the nearby tree with full force. Unfortunately, it back-fire!
Luckily enough, Odebunmi narrowly escaped the deadly attempt from the Emo forest murderer. That was how Koluko ghost finished himself. A butter fly that ran inside the flaming lamp cannot escape the brunt of hot consuming fire!
The Koluko demon violent efforts to destroy Odebunmi on that dark day boomerangs and destroyed him without measures. It is the sword of tortoise that is often used to kill tortoise in battles or war. The stone thrown at the palm tree will back to the sender promptly.
Koluko spirit got him clipped to the tree heavily. His legs were off ground with the head stiff and stacked bent. The two horns on the ghost entered deeply inside the big tree. All frantic struggles by Koluko to free him failed. He begged Odebunmi to bail him at of the trap. Odebunmi seized that chance to collect a lot of treasures and fortunes from the ghost at that hour with the promise of released assurance. The stupid ghost took Odebunmi for granted. The eye of mercy had gone blind totally. Koluko fall completely at the court square of Odebunmi and Alaseju. The ghost became the laughing stock of Emo forest. The powerful demon became a prey inside his own trap.
If you are to dig a trap for your enemy, avoid digging it too deep. So that if by mistake, you got yourself inside, it will not be hard to get out.
Odebunmi and Alaseju make mockery of the joker for few hours as he kept pleading for release.
Koluko finished himself, he was now asking for favour from Odebunmi and Alaseju. How come?
Well-done! While the foolish ghost eventually struggled tireless to disengaged and gained freedom that was too far away from reality.Like a crooked arrow, he missed the target.
Koluko spirit groans in severe pains. He anguishes and shamed for the failed attempt to kill the bold, brave woman hunter from Ajia village.
Odebunmi recited some incantations. Finally, she made up her mind, Fust as a flash. She quickly ran to cut the two horns off Koluko spirit.
Eventually, that was the last straw broke the Carmel's back! Throw out the mocker, and you will be rid of tension, fighting and quarrels. The unjust tyrant will reap disaster. His reign of terror shall come to a dead-end!
Immediately the two horns were brutally cut-off, Koluko ghost instantly became succumbed and extremely weak like a sick sheep about to be slaughtered. He was too thirsty and totally drained. He became powerless and moved sluggishly about within the vicinity!
The merciless demon and terror of Emo forest does not deserve the mercy of Odebunmi. The end of the aged wicked demon must be made brutal.
Without wasting time, the gallant woman promptly handled her
Well charmed and battle ready double barrel gun. Odebunmi shot the one-eye demon; Koluko at the chest with several hot bullets that sounded like fire blast, while roaming aimlessly about in the forest!
Koluko spirit cried aloud terribly to usurp the pain. The agony and heat of the gun-shot griped him finally to death. There was no option or alternative for the horrible ghost than to have it that sorrowful way.
After a while, there was earth tremor everywhere inside Emo forest!
Everywhere was in disarray! Most parts of Emo forest became rowdy and unsettled as Koluko spirit was staggering here and there for several minutes and grinds to a halt eventually.
The painful riddance to bad rubbish!
No way of escape, no mercy for the merciless. The wine of horror should be given to the terroristfor dinner! Odebunmi failed to spare the gun at all, she released another rounds of bullets to ensure that the ridded does not escape the over-due termination from earth. Odebunmi wasted her bullets to dismantled Koluko and tear him into rubbish with hot curses and spells of vengeance.
At last, Koluko spirit collapsed and gave up the ghost. The up roar was finally settled. It was like birds when the sun shines on a gloomy morning. Odebunmi was extremely happy and grateful to God of his father's that made it possible to witness the mighty fall of a calibre.
The Emo forest was in pendulum and turbulence! There was great pandemonium in the whole forest. All objects and subjects felt the impact for a while.
The unexpected disasters have befallen Emo forest. The weapons are broken without imagination. The troubled-demon was conquered like slammed door in anger. It led to moan and futile wrath. Every space was overwhelmed with crises and unsettlements for a moment. The siege of torment at Ajia village was over finally!
There was thunder in the whirl-wind that blew. Koluko spirit could no-longer demonstrate his awesome power. Animals inside the forest feared. The earth trembled and shook to its rolled and crackled in the sky with flashed lightning mixed with utterly strangled forest voices.
What a mighty-fall?
Koluko spirit steeds, the rider got entangled in the sleep of death. The cup of pale and sparkling wine was poured to drain a wicked demon to the dregs by Odebunmi, woman of destiny won the long-time battle!
Surprisingly, immediately the body of shot dead Koluko spirit touched the ground, he became ashes with thick flames. The snare was broken on that day forever!
Odebunmi joyfully packed all the ashes of the defeated foe inside her pocket and returned with Alaseju to Ajia village. She conquered the battle alive without any wounds or regrets.
In recognition of her victory over Koluko demon and successful returned from Emo forest. Odebunmi was honoured and crowned: The Queen of Hunters by the Alajia of Ajia!
Odebunmi and Alaseju were given a befitting royal welcome by the people of Ajia village. On a good note, Odebunmi was the victorious, brave and successful woman hunter who fought and conquered the Koluko spirit of Emo forest.
With that experience and exposure, Odebunmi and Alaseju got elevated and promoted among the Yoruba hunters. They were promoted to honour and not shame.
Odebunmi was able to curb incessant incidence of Koluko killings and other vices. She fought a good fight of faith!
Throughout her long life in Ajia village, Odebunmi continued to use her talents and gifts as a brave and bold woman hunter for people and God.
She said: '' by ourselves, we are helpless, but with the hand of God as a woman, we can become useful creatures of God that can move humanity forward ''
In the whole of Ajia village, Odebunmi was product of courage, perseverance, determination, and humility as a woman hunter.
She became so famous until her death with living energy and many feathers on her cap as brave, bold woman hunter and warrior that ever lived.

She was like a tree that bears life giving fruits to the people of Ajia. Since the birth of Odebunmi, Ajia village has never been a dearth of talents.
Odebunmi was the first woman hunter ever-lived in the whole of Yoruba land. She was born in a special way; on a special day of the week with an entirely different experience at birth that were highly very symbolic.
Odebunmi was a child sent to the world with mission and peculiar assignment among the Ajia people.Things were positively no longer the same again since the day she was born at Ajia village.
Despite his prominent status in the community as the most loved, decorated and recognized leader of hunters and warriors.
Really, many favours were showered onOdewale as a successful hunter and gallant warrior in the community, but no child to behold like others who are not even as blessed.
Several sacrifices and rituals were done without any impact. He had travelled far and near in search for solution to the plight. Annually for years, Odewale was a regular witness at Osun Oshogbo festival in the name of begetting a child.
The vigorous efforts to remove the spell of childlessness failed woefully. A man may have fame, money, riches, education etc;
Also, when eagle rises to fly and display on air.
He was notimpotent as some people have assumed.
He was influential, famous andwealthy.
A war fighter like Odewale was rare and uncommon.
He was fondof laughing and smiling as a happy man with everybody.
It is a taboo among the Yoruba tribes to be born without replacing yourself by given birth to another child!
When the wiseran into serious trouble he becomes a fool.
He was a man to behold in terms of the physical body built-up. However, Odewale have no child to be proud of in the society. What makes a prisoner to be joyfully dancing at market square?
Truly, Odewale had money, but having a child is better and more honourable! The having of a son is far better than all the fames of this world. To be candid, men with a child have the hope of experiencing a befitting burial at demise when agedor old.
It was subject of conversation among the congregations, forums and platforms in Ajia village and other locations like Akanran, Idi-iroko, Jegede, Olunloyo, Araromi, Egbeda, Gbada-Efon, Adegbayi, Osegere, Oluwo, Amuloko, Iyana-Offa, Oke-Elesin, Jaago, Badeku, Olorunsogo, Odeyale, and Oremeji-Agugu!
In some quarters, people were saying that Odewale had exchanged his manhood for fame: '' How could a strong man like Odewale be without a child? ''
'' Something fetish must be behind it''
The villagers concluded.
Undoubtedly, Odewale battled the troubles of frantic barrenness with disturbances of mind.Life became hectic and frenzied.
Abike consoled and assured Odewale of a baby through her by the grace of God.
She was never a crabby, crankyor quarrelsome woman!
The pregnancy of Abike was by God's favour and the validation of divine powers!
Also, some weird and wonderful happens bounded the birth during herdelivery.
The very day she was born until; for three days after; there was a heavy down - pour of rain; despite in the dry season;
Nothing could be used in exchange for the joy and deep happiness created to the family and friends of Odewale when Abike gave birth to Odebunmi.
The scrods of people fromfar and near trooped out from different directions to celebrate with Odewale at the mega- naming ceremony.
Indeed, Odewale's associates and friends from far and near graced the occasion. The naming rites was done for the baby - girl. It was historical and in grand style and memorable. It was jubilation galore.
Unlike others, an elephant and a lion were killed for the celebrations; including assorted busy meats with rocky bites of roasted corns and palm-wine at the village square!
For the sake of Odebunmi alone, the young girls of Ajia danced the dance of Awurebe; while the men folks shook their bodiesto Afro-Juju music with Apala dance without shame or mess.
In fact, when there is money more than enough with a rich man; there may not be any display of wealth that cannot be considered as the best option.
The joy of having a kid at last over flown in the heart of Odewale who mercilessly sprayed his money lavishly on the naming christen of Odebunmi without any regrets or restrictions.
Odewale was happy saying:
'' I know now that I'm a fortunate man and life is so great to me''
Odewale and Odebunmi were pioneers, pacesetters and Trail Blazers in Ajiaand environs.
She eventually became prominent militant hunter before and after the demise of her father?Odewale-theOluode of Ajia kingdom.
One day, Odebunmi decided to visit the forest of Emo as a hunter.
She never absorbed or deviated from the instructions of herdear beloved parent.
There was a forest not too far from Ajia village called ''Emo forest.'' The thick unfriendly forest was named ''Emo'' because the entailed terrible, chaotic and strange things that does happen to who ever visited the avenue for anything.
Ittakes a strong and very powerful human being to visit Emo forest and returned without any causality or unharmed.
Despite the odds, the Emo forest, like other forests have many functions of value to both humanity and to nature itself.
Odewale was one of the notable rich individuals whogot the wealth of Emo forest in many ways.
There were frantic mystical powers that made his war exploits possible.
Nothing can stop the sun from rising at the beginning of a new day.
'' One day, I will visit theEmo forest like my father did'' claimed Odebunmi.
In life today, those who talked out their plans suffer the consequences.
Men of the world are wicked. They are prepared to trash any good intension without apology!
Those who exposed their dreams or vision like Joseph of the Holy Bible do not find it ease any longer. That is human being for you. Therefore, keep your plans to yourself until it is done.
A Yoruba adage says: ''Children of the world are not wishing you Success; only your destiny would determine it''
As a woman with native wisdom and understanding, Odebunmidid not proclaim her planned visit to Emo forest.
Those who dare such must have a very long spoon.
''But no matter what it may be; the mountain that the strongman climbed with stressful experience, the daughter of God will walk overfreely and offer offering sacrifices in return''
One evening, Odebunmi left home for hunting expedition at Erimo Mountain a few kilometres away from Ajia village to explored issues around.
There amazing big trees and othermarvellous objects on the top of the peculiar rocky mountain.
The Erimo Mountain was marvellous and well valued by the good people of Ajia community.
It looked like the head of lion when observed from far distance by tourists and visitors. As a result, Erimo Mountain was referred to as: The Lion Skull Rock!
What a beautiful work of nature to behold? Erimo Mountain is a combination of rocky hills, waterfalls and forest! It could be seen as source of life to the people of Ajia.
There were other mysteries attached to Erimo Mountain that made it a rally-point for august visitors from different parts of Yoruba land andbeyond.
She began to have some strange feelings coupled with thick darkness that surrounded the environment despite the bright flood light on her fore-head.
This was an hour of opportunity forthe brave woman hunter to strike.
The echo was intensive and terrible like quake ran far and wide. If not for the stoniness of Odebunmi; the heavy sound from the voice could make an ordinary person quiver or go dumb and deaf!
The unstoppable Odebunmi was frightened but battle ready. She was not troubled or fumbled. She ensured her gun could do justice to whatever appears.
The atmosphere became unpleasant. The bad odour from the strange image polluted the air completely. The scent could kill if inhaled for long.
The Erimo mountain spirit told Odebunmi boldly during theencounter carrying the feelings of vengeance:
Terrible! He squirmed uneasily and started bulling to snatch the killed lion from Odebunmi.
The big bullyscreamed, shamble, tumble and fell down like the blast of trailer truck tyre!
Your journey to the top will be faster it you have a clear idea of where you are going!
The experience andterrible encounters, witnessed often by hunters in the bush are usually terrible and unpleasant.
She found it difficult to get to her roots despite all efforts.Even though not blind, she could not walk straight to where Ajia could be visible any longer.
However, on the fifty day, she got tired of piloting her way back home despite making frantic and tremendous efforts as a hunter with wider charms and incantations.
She couldn'tstay awake any longer.
For a long time, Odebunmi have been looking forward to visit Emo forest has done by her late father Odewale. What a replica of experience by the adventurous woman hunter! Like father, like the daughter! Nothing can prevent the lion from parading the forest for meat.
Equally, nothing stops the lion from climbing the mountain of terror in search for horror!
There is time for everything. When Odebunmi, the brave woman hunter from Ajia village was ready to visit Emo foresthas planned and schemed statistically.
He loved challenges and supporting others.
''What the Eyes is Seeking for; Is What the Eyes is seeing''
If you can tackle Koluko spirit as at the time of your entrance to Emo forest, then you will have the ample chance to enrich yourself with great fortunes that nature endowed inside the forest.
A successful entrance and peaceful returned out of the forest is a big ticket to riches, wealth and honour. No hunter or individual enters Emo forest and returned without becoming rich or wealthy in those days
Money, Riches and other fortunes are well loaded inside the forest to tap and grab for those who can be inside and comeout alive!
Meanwhile, Odebunmi was taught never to go to war without wise guidance; there is safety in many counsellors.
Really, nothingcan stop the lion from entering the forest as the confirmed king of Animals.
They walked boldly and bravely at twilight inside the Emo forest.
Even though they sensed the estrangedagents within the environs
You cannot call yourself a man without facinga battle and won gallantly.
She was amazed to found him in such a deplorable condition and wondered what must have led to that?
''A beggar may not have a choice, but we can give the beggar a chance''
Odebunmi was able to rescued Alaseju back to life using some charms and herbs for the treatment immediately. The medications worked and the wounds were treated perfectly well. And within few minutes Alaseju gained life from the comma and made to rest on the Tiger skin-mat under the Iroko tree.
While watching Alaseju like a nurse inthe hospital with her patient;
She pushed and flanged the bully demon from her side in great annoyance.
Both Odebunmi and Koluko began to fight vigorously. Heavy dust and storm arose at the battle spot. Where two elephants are fighting; it is the grass that suffers.
Alaseju watched the battle of giants in panic, but never missed any part of the scenes like watching a video or movie.
At the genesis, Odebunmi made a frantic attempt to push Koluko spirit down, because if the demon should fall on the ground, he would dieinstantly.
The terrible fight of two heady- giants lasted about three hours of hot battles threatened with evil powers and fetish commands.
But, instead tofall down, Koluko stood up on his legs firmly and steady like a cat.
As Odebunmi retreats back a bit like ram.
It is the sword of tortoise that isoften used to kill tortoise in battles or war.
How come?
Well-done! While the foolish ghost eventually struggled tireless to disengaged and gained freedom that was too far away from reality. Like a crooked arrow, he missed the target.
Throw out the mocker, and you will be rid of tension, fighting andquarrels.
The wine of horror should be given to the terrorist for dinner!
Odebunmi was extremelyhappy and grateful to God of his father's that made it possible to witness the mighty fall of a calibre.
Withthat experience and exposure, Odebunmi and Alaseju got elevated and promoted among the Yoruba hunters.
