Chapter 1
It's been two years and five months since Ruth was kidnapped. She was eleven, and I was fourteen. Since it happened, every night at exactly 6 o'clock I wander the city, looking for anyone who seemed suspicious in my eyes. Even with all the time I spent doing this, there happened to be no clue on where Ruth may have been taken. I know today will be different though. I can feel it.
"Come down to eat Irene!" Said Ms. Davis
I come rushing down the stairs with my backpack hung over my shoulder, and stumble slightly as I try finishing sliding on my left shoe. I quickly walk into the kitchen, and grab a granola bar before heading for the door.
"And where do you think you're going eating something that small missy?" Said Mrs. Davis
"C'mon mom! I'm gonna be late for school!.." I say
"You know better than that Irene. If it's such a big deal, I can just give you a ride."
"Momm.. You know I meet up with Aaron to walk to school together!" I turn around to face her mother
"Fine.. But at least grab another granola bar so you're not starving when you get to school." Bianca crosses her arms, looking at Irene with an unamused expression
"Really mom?" I huff, before dragging my feet over to the kitchen and grab another granola bar "Now I've got to go mom!" I run towards the door "Love you mom!" I say before shutting the front door behind me
Chapter 2
Me and Aaron have been friends long before Ruth got kidnapped. I guess you could say that we've always been the best of friends. He's got my back, and I've got his. And in my eyes, we have a special bond. We always know what the other is thinkingor feeling, and if that doesn't scream 'unique bond', I don't know what does. He's been the one who snuck out with me, just to look around town for any hooks on Ruth's kidnapper. Today though, we're skipping school together to look around for the entirety of our school day. It was actually his idea in the first place, which I found strange since he's always said he would never want to miss a class, and skipping school is way too overboard, for him at least.. We planned this out about a week ago, and got everything ready the day after.
"Geez you're finally here.." Said Aaron, stepping closer to me as I walked closer
"Sorry.. My mom was all butt-hurt I only grabbed a granola bar, and had me grab another one?" I say, stopping just about five feet away from Aaron
"Guess I should have known your mom would do that.." Aaron sighs
"Yeah sorry.. We can go now though. Did you get everything?" Me and Aaron begin walking down the street as I wrap my fingers around the straps of my backpack
"The only thing I wasn't able to get were snacks.. But I brought some money in case we got hungry."
"Thank goodness for you getting a job last week huh?"
"I hope you know you'll be paying me back any money we spend."
"Yeah yeah. I'll pay you back the moment I get a job"
"So I'll take that as I won't be getting paid back ever?"
"Hey!" I punch him in the right shoulder, causing him to slightly flinch
"Whatt? I'm just telling the truth.. When's the last time your mom actually brought it up?"
I stay silent, knowing he's right as I look off to the side awkwardly
"See, I'm always right! Don't worry about paying me backanyways, I'm getting my paycheck tomorrow anyways."
We eventually reach the abandoned building with halfway rusty broken windows, and moss covered gray brick walls.
This was the one place me and Aaron went to make plans for getting a hook on Ruby, which of course always failed, and go when we get in a fight with our parents. And though it may not be or smell the best, I'd gladly call this place my second home.
Aaron walks in with me following behind, before he hears someone's voice and grabs me before running behind a wall, and puts his arm over me to keep me in place
"Shh. I think someone's in here.." He says in a hushed tone
