Chapter 12

That evening, Alanna and Aimil's went to meet Emilia and Lorence in the galley for dinner. Emilia couldn't help but tease Alanna and Aimil's intensified closeness, making playful banter as she did. She enjoyed seeing Alanna's face flush and the giggles that escaped her. She was happy to see them both so happy, even Aimil who was guarded and rigid when they met had now loosened up in his demeanor, smiling more. Alanna left the table briefly to use the privy chamber again and when she came out, that same woman accosted her again with a disturbing blank look in her eye. In a matter of seconds Aimil was there, jumping in front of Alanna, ready to fight for his love if need be but Alanna held him back. "I'll handle this," she said firmly stepping out in front of him and holding up her palms. The woman fell in a heap on the floor boards, leaving behind a thick dark smoky figure. Alanna hummed an unfamiliar tune, her hands still held out towards the shadow. Aimil watched in wonder as the shadow transformed into translucent male figure, his face looked mangled and he was covered in blood. Alanna kept humming, her hands stretched out towards him still until his once disfigured form cleared bringing forth his true face and the blood fading from his garments, and then she stopped. Aimil was glad no one had witnessed any of that. "Who are you?" The floating male figure asked Alanna. "I'm Alanna, what's your name?" She asked with a warm smile. "My name's Sevrin, domina mea. Where am I? How did I get here?" Sevrin asked looking around in confusion. Alanna regarded him for a moment and she finally understood what was happening. "Sevrin, what's the last thing you remember?" She asked softly. "I was at home, I'd just walked in on my wife with another man and I left in a hurry. I went out into the woods and there was a group of men making their way into town. Then I was lost and I... I don't remember anything after that," he said, his brows furrowed.

Sevrin must've died horribly, Alanna thought, everything had happened too quickly, that's why he seemed to be barely conscious before. Sometimes it happened that way, when a person would die horribly under traumatic circumstances, they'd end up lost in purgatory, turning into mindless wraiths that wreaked havoc, consumed and lost in their pain. She felt sympathy for him wondering how long he'd been in that state, lost to himself. She raised her hand towards his face and he flinched, unsure what to expect. "It's alright Sevrin, I can help you if you let me," she said. She raised her hand up towards his face again brushing her fingers over his forehead and holding his cheek for a moment and his eyes fell shut. When she let go, he opened his eyes, his face twisted in pain as tears welled up in his eyes. "H-how did you do that?" He stuttered struggling to find his words. "I- I did that? I caused so much harm, how could I not remember?" His voice broke as he started sobbing his memories returning. "You weren't in your right mind, you were trapped because of the circumstances of your death. You didn't know what you were doing or where you were," Alanna said softly as she felt tears welling in her own eyes as she felt the man's pain. Sevrin was silent for a moment before he spoke again. "So what happens now? What do I do?" He asked. "Well, Sevrin, you handle your unfinished business, get closure and then come find me for the crossing," Alanna answered with compassion and sympathy. The poor man, she couldn't tell he was a gentle soul. "Your wife must be on this ship if you're here," she added. Sevrin looked around before closing in on the woman who still lay on the floor unconscious. "That's her," he said. "Well, she'll be awake soon enough. You'll know what to do when she wakes," she said nodding to Aimil, grabbing his hand. "Thank you domina mea, I'll see you when my business is done," Sevrin said somberly with tears still in his eyes as Alanna and Aimil walked back to their table in the galley.

"Oh my! What happened?" Emilia asked as Alanna and Aimil settled back down. "Oh, just a lost soul, it's alright now," Alanna answered with a wave of her hand and they resumed their meal. Aimil had Alanna's hand in his throughout, he needed her to know that he was there for her. When night fell, Emilia and Lorence headed back to their cabin while Alanna and Aimil stayed out on the deck enjoying the night. "Poor guy, I can't imagine what he must've gone through being lost like that!" Alanna said with a sadness in her tone. "I know," Aimil said pulling her into him, wrapping his arms around her. This was their last night on the ship, they'd disembark on Ubertas the next day. Alanna was both nervous and excited to bring her people together, to bring them out of hiding and to explore more of her magic.

It didn't take long before Alanna and Aimil retreated to their cabin. "I want to drink some mead tonight and make merry," Alanna whispered to Aimil as they laid curled up against each other on her bed. She could hear the sound of music coming from the galley. She hadn't allowed herself to drink any mead in the previous days because she had to be on high alert but tonight, tonight she had the luxury. Aimil was all for it, he wanted to see what she was like with mead in her. Soon they were in the galley where only a few passengers and the crew were drinking and dancing with a couple of the crew members playing cheerful music with flute and gittern in hand. "Alanna! Aimil! Over here!" Leomaris called out to them motioning for them to join his table where only Sergius and he sat. Alanna and Aimil happily joined them as Leomaris fetched jugs of mead for them and they sat together making light conversation. "So how have you managed to escape the Venator Order all this time with your enchanted ship and all?" Alanna asked after some time. "Well I can easily sense when someone with ill intent tries to come aboard my ship, and so can some of my crew. They help me keep the loonies out," Leomaris laughed. "And it doesn't hurt that many people think the ship's haunted, keeps them off our scent," Sergius added laughing as well taking a big gulp of his mead dramatically and they all laughed.

After a couple of jugs, Aimil took Alanna's hand and pulled her to her feet. "A dance, Mea Dea?" He requested, pulling her into him as they made their way to the open space in the middle where others danced around as well. Alanna and Aimil stumbled into their cabin later in the night laughing loudly. Alanna had had such a wonderful time with Aimil. "Here, let me help," Aimil laughed with a slight slur as he reached for Alanna's clothes. They fumbled out of their clothes laughing at their own fumbling with Aimil pulling Alanna's naked flesh to him, wrapping his arm around her waist and his other hand cupping her cheek as he admired the goddess in his arms. She made his heart flutter every time he saw her, and his loins stir whenever she was around evidently. Alanna gazed up at him lovingly and he couldn't help but kiss her passionately. Goddess! He never thought he could ever feel the way she made him feel. In no time they were in Alanna's bed, their bodies sliding and grinding over each other as they explored each other and made love over and over again until they finally slept in each other's arms.

Morning came quicker than either of them wished. Aimil was the first to stir awake and after a few moments of watching Alanna sleep, he slid down her body. Alanna woke up to waves of pleasure and a hungry Aimil devouring her with a sly smile on his face as he looked up at her from between her legs. They made love over and over again like it was the first time, never seeming to have enough. When they finally collapsed on the bed in each others arms and their bodies tangled, Alanna was sure it was almost noon. She pulled Aimil up and they both got ready for the day with a long heated bath. When they finally emerged from their cabin, they'd made sure they'd packed their belongings in preparation. As per their usual routine, they sat out on the deck for a few minutes taking in the warm sun and the cool breeze then headed into the galley for a hot meal and a lighthearted conversation with Emilia and Lorence. "Emilia, I must say I'm glad I met you and Lorence," Alanna started. "Me too, my friend," Emilia gushed grasping her hand warmly. "Aimil and I will be disembarking at Ubertas today," Alanna said. "Well then no need for farewells, we'll be disembarking there too," Emilia said cheerfully with a wave of her hand. Alanna was glad that she didn't have to bid her new friends farewell just yet.

When she was done eating, she went to speak to Leomaris with Aimil trailing behind her while Emilia and Lorence retreated to their cabin to prepare. She found Leomaris at the helm of the ship with Sergius close by. Those two always seemed to be hanging around each other. "Captain!" She called out nodding at Leomaris and waving at Sergius. She could see they were approaching Ubertas pretty quickly from where she stood. "Captain Leomaris I wanted to thank you for taking such good care of me and Aimil, it means the world to me," she said to him with a warm smile. "It has been my greatest honor Mea Dea. Ubertas is a wonderful place for the Donatus. It'll feel like home to you two," Leomaris said bringing his hat to his chest with a slight bow of his head. Alanna walked over to Sergius and thanked him for his help as well. "I hope to see you two again," she said to the two men. "Of that I have no doubt, domina mea," Sergius said with a smile. "You can call on us if you ever need us, you know how. We'll find you no matter how far," Leomaris said clasping her shoulders fondly. Alanna stepped away to allow Aimil his goodbyes before they headed back to their cabin to collect their belongings, locking the room behind them. She would make sure to come back. Emilia and Lorence were waiting in the lobby bar with their luggage. The ship docked on Ubertas and Sergius and Leomaris came out to bid Alanna and Aimil farewell as they disembarked with Emilia and her husband Lorence close behind them.

As the two couples walked out into Ubertas hand-in-hand, they braced themselves for new adventures. Alanna and Aimil knew for sure that life would never be the same but no matter the challenges they faced, they would face them together. Alanna smiled lovingly at Aimil as they walked into a new brave adventure and Aimil smiled back with a full heart, grateful to have reunited with himself and his great love.
