Chapter 3

"Now that everyone is here, there's something I'd like to do," Aimil started, pushing his chair further back, facing Alanna and taking a knee. "Mea Dea, you and I have been through a lot over our lifetimes and as fate would have it, we have found each other again and this time I'm not letting you go. You have brought back the light I was missing into my life because you are my light. You are amazing and if I were to list all the reasons I love you, we'd be here for several lifetimes. I plan to follow you to the ends of the multiverse. So, amica mea, will you take me to be yours for eternity once more?" Alanna was stunned to say the least. Her eyes were gleaming with unshed tears as she gazed into Aimil's eyes, taking in his every word. She clutched her chest and took a deep breath, closing her eyes as everyone waited. Aimil couldn't help but feel nervous as he waited. Alanna brought her hand to his cheek, gazing into her eyes lovingly. "Yes, amica mea, an eternity's worth yes!" She answered. Aimil blew out a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness! You had me worried for a moment there," he muttered with a smile as he took out a beautiful golden ring decorated with ruby and emerald gems from his pocket and slid it onto her finger before sweeping her up into his arms as he stood, kissing her passionately.

Everyone at the table cheered as they kissed. Alanna had forgotten there was anyone around them until she heard the cheers. Her face flushed and she hid it in Aimil's chest as she held him just as tightly as he held her. "Not too fast I hope," Aimil whispered to her. "No, it's perfect. You're perfect for me," Alanna whispered back as Aimil buried his face in the crook of her neck. From her parents' faces she could tell they had an inkling this was going to happen while the others were pleasantly surprised. "Wow! You're all grown up now!" Vallen said, leaning over to ruffle her curls as he did when they were children. "You're one to talk! Look at how tall and buff you've become!" Alanna retorted and slapped his hand away playfully as she laughed. Aimil was excited to share this moment with both his parents and Alanna's family. "Well it's about time! I hope I'm not too late," a voice boomed from behind them. Ava simply smiled and nodded at Alanna, gesturing for her to take a look. Alanna shrieked in excitement as she looked back to find Orin standing there with a bright smile on his face. She leaped out of her chair and ran to him, hugging him tightly.

"W-what are you doing here?!" She asked completely floored. "Your mother found me earlier today, said there was a special occasion," he chuckled as they hugged. Alanna felt like her heart would burst right out of her chest. She pulled away as she felt Aimil come up behind her, giving him space to greet Orin. "You set me up exquisitely, you old grump!" He said playfully to Orin as they embraced. "What can I say? When fate comes calling, one must oblige," Orin laughed happily. Alanna looked back at her mother warmly. "Thank you," she mouthed to her. "Come on Orin, join us please! You're part of the family now," Ava said with a broad smile as she stood to pull up a chair for Orin. "I can't believe you did this for me!" Alanna exclaimed happily at her mother. "I thought you might do with a few more surprises," Ava laughed, ecstatic to witness her daughter's happiness. "What do you say we have the Unio ceremony the morning after tomorrow while Aimil's parents are here?" Ava asked. "Would you be alright with that?" Alanna asked turning to Aimil. "Mea Dea, I would marry you right this moment," Aimil answered, grabbing her hand and interlacing their fingers. "I guess we'd better prepare!" Alanna chuckled turning to her mother. "Oh no! We'll make the preparations, you just have to show up," Ava said warmly as Ries wrapped an arm around her.

By the time Alanna and Aimil got back to their room it was almost midnight. "That was one hell of a first day!" Alanna said dropping on the bed with a happy smile. "We're going to make a lot more of those," Aimil said as he sat beside her, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her onto him as he laid down. "If I recall correctly, we still have some unfinished business," Aimil mumbled into Alanna's neck, his fingers grabbing her curls gently as he brought her lips to his. Alanna woke up the next morning to find Aimil already awake as usual, watching her. "Ave, Mea Dea," he whispered as he kissed her forehead then her lips. "Ave, amica mea," Alanna mumbled sleepily against his lips. The previous night felt like a dream but the stunning ring on her finger was proof that it wasn't. She was grateful to have her family back, grateful to have been able to give Aimil a chance to reunite with his parents too. She knew challenges lay ahead with regard to her mission but right now, right now she intended on embracing every bit of happiness she got. "What's on your mind?" Aimil asked as he stroked her curls. "How utterly blessed I am," Alanna answered with a smile on her face as she lay on his chest. "I'm so unbelievably lucky to have you," Aimil whispered, kissing the top of her head. "And don't you forget it," Alanna answered playfully. "Oh I don't plan on it," Aimil chuckled, tilting her head up so he could kiss her again, his hands roaming down her body as he moved over her.

"Can we just sleep in for a little longer?" Alanna moaned as Aimil fell beside her and pulled her onto him, his breathing labored from the intense lovemaking session they'd just had. "How about we have some breakfast first?" Aimil asked. "I'm not getting out of bed for breakfast," Alanna muttered, waving her hand as she conjured up a tray with bowls of assorted berries, eggs, some sweet cakes and tea on the bedside table. Aimil laughed at her antics, she was clearly determined to stay in bed for the morning. He sat up and pulled her against his chest, feeding her as he ate until they were both sated before he pulled the covers over them.

When Alanna woke up again it was almost noon and the space beside her was empty. "I thought you'd be waking up about now," Aimil chuckled as he walked from the bathroom, still very naked. "How long have you been awake?" Alanna mumbled. "Just a few minutes, I thought I'd prepare a bath for us before you woke up," he answered as he laid down, wrapping his arms around her. It took a few minutes before Alanna was ready to get out of bed. Aimil scooped her up in his arms and carried her into the bathroom, gently placing her into the tub of deliciously warm sweet scented water and getting in after her. As was now a routine, Aimil washed her while she washed him which of course ended up with him buried deep inside her. Once they were ready for the day, they went to the beach to find Alanna's family, Aimil's parents, Emilia, Lorence and Orin at a large table brimming with delicacies waiting for them. "About time!" Mateo teased as they sat for lunch.

"Hey, Alanna! Want to go for a swim?" Vallen asked excitedly. "Actually, I wanted to take flight for a little while and save the swim for the evening. Would you like to join us?" Alanna responded as she and Aimil stood, her glorious wings popping out. "Whoa!" Everyone exclaimed. She'd forgotten that it had been a long time since she hadn't had to hide her magic and even then, the last time she was with her family her wings weren't quite like they were now. "You have two pairs of wings?!" Mateo shrieked excitedly to which Alanna smiled. "The awakening came with a few changes," she answered taking a few steps back and going up a few feet into the air. Aimil released his wings and joined her. "Come on guys! Who wants to come along? You don't need wings, I can help," Alanna called out to the table where most of them were still staring with slack jaws. "Really?! Can I come?" Emilia asked excitedly, bouncing in her seat while Lorence shook his head with amusement. "Of course," Alanna answered, chuckling lowly. "Okay, wait, what do I do?" Emilia asked as she stood. "Just look pretty and hold on," Lorence answered as he stood and released a pair of beautiful silver wings before scooping Emilia up in his arms. "You have wings?! How did I never see them?" Emilia gasped. "We've never been to a place like this where there are no mundanes," Lorence answered smilingly with a shrug as he took off with her giggling in his arms. Ava, Ries, Favian, Angelina and Valeria joined them while Orin, Silestino, Hilarid, Arrden, Janan and Eva stayed behind to go over plans for the Unio ceremony.

Evelynn, Lyra and a few other sylph joined them as they flew around the island. Alanna was ecstatic to share these moments with her family. She and Aimil were grateful to be in a place where they didn't have to hide or sneak around to use their magic. By the time they came down, it was almost time for dinner. Ava went to the kitchen to make arrangements for dinner with her husband while the others sat and chatted. "So Vallen, Mateo, any special people I'm yet to meet?" Alanna asked her cousins. Mateo's face flushed and Vallen rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Come on! Tell me!" Alanna whined just like she used to growing up whenever she wanted to coax answers from them. "Well, there's a possibility," Mateo said and Vallen nodded, "what he said." "So I'm guessing they're on the island?" Alanna asked and the boys nodded. "Any chance I get to meet them soon?" Alanna asked again, trying to get as much information as she could. "If things go well, sure," Vallen said.

Vallen had had his eye on a beautiful girl named Journi for a while now. They'd been friends but he'd just expressed his romantic feelings for her the day before he reunited with Alanna. From their conversation the feeling was mutual but he hadn't wanted to push her into meeting his family yet. He'd been thinking he'd invite her to the Unio ceremony for a soft launch. Mateo on the other hand had fallen for one of his friends, Adulio. He was pretty sure the feeling was mutual but they'd both been quite shy about expressing their feelings; Mateo out of anxiety and Adulio, well, he didn't know yet. Alanna hoped they would both bring their partners or potential partners to the Unio ceremony. "What about uncle Hilarid? If I remember correctly, he had a partner before the attack," Alanna inquired in a whisper to the boys, leaning closer to avoid being overheard. "Yes, Fae. Unfortunately she didn't survive the attack," Mateo answered somberly. His father hadn't had any interest in anyone else since Fae's passing. Alanna was said for her uncle, she wanted to do something special for him. Aimil enjoyed watching Alanna interact with her family, she was a ball of joy. His heart was warmed by how they'd all embraced him and his parents as well.

"Excuse me for a moment," Alanna said to the boys. "Amica mea, I'll be right back," she said to Aimil as she got up from her seat and walked around the table. "Grandma, could you please help me add one more chair to the table? We're going to have a guest," she asked of Eva before walking to Hilarid. "Uncle Hilarid, can you come with me please?" She whispered to him and took his hand as he followed her down to the shore away from the table. "I'm so sorry to hear about Fae," she said quietly as they walked. "Thank you, Alanna," Hilarid said somberly. He still missed Fae. He hadn't been able to bring himself to be with anyone else since her sudden death. "Would you like to see her again?" Alanna asked as she read Hilarid's energy. "I'd give anything. I never even got the chance to say goodbye, you know?" Hilarid answered with a wistful look on his face. Alanna blew out a sigh of relief. Her plan would work, she could do something. "Uncle, you know I have my Unio ceremony tomorrow and I wanted to give you something special. Close your eyes, it's a surprise," she said softly to him, taking his hand. Once his eyes were firmly closed she waved her hand, opening up a portal to post vitam and calling Fae forth. When Fae appeared, Alanna held up her finger to her lips urging to keep quiet then grabbed her hand and muttered some words in the ancient language, solidifying her translucent figure and closing the portal behind her. "Uncle Hilarid, you can open your eyes now," Alanna said softly, rubbing her uncle's hand. Hilarid stumbled back when he opened his eyes to find Fae standing in front of him, beautiful as ever. "H-how is this even p-possible?" He stuttered, his eyes darting between Fae and Alanna. "I brought her here as my gift to you for the Unio ceremony. I didn't want you to feel alone and I wanted to give you the chance to say goodbye properly, both of you," Alanna answered with a slight smile. Fae squeezed Alanna's hand gratefully before taking a few steps closer to Hilarid, bringing her hand up to his cheek. Hilarid inhaled sharply and closed his eyes before opening them again and wrapping his arms around Fae. "I'll give you two some time to get reacquainted and then you can join us for dinner," Alanna said stepping back. "Thank you," Hilarid mouthed to her before she turned around and walked back to the table where her family sat. After dinner, as promised, Alanna, Aimil, Vallen, Mateo, Emilia and Lorence went out into the sea for a swim. It didn't take long before Alina and some of her other companions joined them as they played in the water.
