Chapter 6

It was about four hours after dawn when Alanna was woken from her sleep by Aimil's tongue sliding back and forth between her folds. When the newly wed couple finally settled in the bathtub after a few rounds of intense love making, Alanna got a message from her mother, Ava, telling her she needed to get back to land. "I'm sorry honey but you need to see this," Ava's voice echoed. "Let's get ready," Aimil had said when he heard the message, picking Alanna up from the tub and wrapping her in a towel. When the two finally flew back to the beach the first thing they noticed was the crowd of people at the shore. They easily spotted their family a few feet from the crowd and landed in front of them. "Mom, what's going on?" Alanna asked as her mother stepped forward to embrace them. "They started showing up this morning, many of them saying they felt drawn here," Ava said, looking back at the crowd. "What do you mean started?" Aimil asked furrowing his brows with a puzzled look on his face. Ava simply pointed to an open portal in the distance where more people were stepping through and then to the ship on the waters approaching the docks. It was the Bajolus. Alanna was excited to see Leomaris and Sergius again but that would have to wait.

Alanna and Aimil shared knowing looks, they both knew what this meant. "Well that was faster than I expected," Alanna said as she looked over the crowd. "Actually I would say it took longer than we expected," Orianna's melodic voice sang as her fiery form approached the couple. "They're here to see you, you know what that means," Orianna's husband, Guitsto said, walking up to them and wrapping a muscular arm around his wife's shoulders. "I thought you lot were gone!" Alanna said, hugging her divine companions. "Eh! We were but we had to come as soon as we got wind of this," Tyanah's voice came from behind them. "All Donatus, right?" Aimil asked. "Definitely!" Ava answered. "Hey, I brought some guests for the gathering!" Genarius called out as he stepped through an open portal with his wife Catori in hand followed by a crowd of what Alanna recognized as the ancestors. "I hope you two had enough alone time because things are about to get heated and fast," Celestina said with a sly grin and a wink at Alanna as she landed. "Not enough!" Aimil grumbled under his breath with a scowl, eliciting a smile from Alanna. "The others will be here in a jiffy," she added, clasping Alanna and Aimil's shoulders, moving to stand behind them. Soon, the shores, the waters and the skies were full of Donatus, the deities and many a magical being. "It's time to address your people, Majestus," Lira said with a slight bow of her head as she gestured for Alanna and Aimil to fly up.

Aimil smiled reassuringly at Alanna and gently took her hand in his, interlacing their fingers as his wings shot out from his back, his whole body glowing brightly. Alanna followed suit and they flew up a few feet above the crowds with the deities behind them, drawing gasps and murmurs from the Donatus. Everyone bowed as Alanna and Aimil floated in the sky before them. "Populus meus! I'm sure some of you are wondering why you're here," Alanna started as the crowds grew quiet save by the melody of the waves of Perditus. "I came here to find my people and by the looks of it, a lot of you came here to find me. We've been watching the events that have played out in your world for millennia and finally the time for truth has come!" She said, glancing briefly at her husband. "For those of you who don't know, aeons ago, we all lived harmoniously together in a multiverse that was magical. There were no barriers separating the worlds and the realms from each other until some, in their greed for power and control, caused great destruction. Because of their actions, we decided to strip them of their power and connection to their magic, separating the worlds and realms as a result of the wrath they brought upon the magical beings. Over the millennia, they grew even more hateful, hunting down those that were still connected to their magic in spite, trying to draw on their power. When they realized they could not siphon magic, they decided to start a systematic genocide of our people," Alanna explained and paused, squeezing Aimil's hand. "You know these people as the Venator Order. They created governments that would help them amass the power, resources and control they had tried and failed to monopolize. Since we were a matriarch, they created a patriarchal system for their governments and institutions. For a long time they convinced their descendants and the world that to have access to magic and divine power was a curse, a disease, an unnatural affliction that needed to be eradicated, twisting the truth for their own agenda while they captured and imprisoned many Donatus, most of them priestesses, forcing them to do their bidding. They hunted the women more fiercely because they could not risk the old order being revived. They imprisoned and tortured the priestesses, killing off the high priestesses, chiefs and queens. They even massacred some of their own women, mundanes, under suspicion of being Donatus," Aimil said, his words evoking a few angry growls from the deities behind him.

"We are here to unite our people, to bring an end to the destruction forced upon them by those who could not change their destructive ways, accept the consequences of their folly and sought to have absolute power and control at all costs," Alanna said. "We have come to restore the divine order of this world and to unite our people. We, your original predecessors have come to remind you that you are neither cursed nor diseased, you are gifted," Alanna said, gesturing to the deities who floated beside her and Aimil. The crowd beneath them broke out in murmurs while their family watched proudly. "We know our presence here will draw the Venator, we know they will wage war against us but we are ready," Fortenay's voice boomed across the island. "It is time for you to prepare! It won't be long before those who have hunted you come after you," Marcelline said, floating down. "Get acquainted with each other and your ancestors. We will have a meeting with you all before dinner to discuss the plan. For now, the other deities and I need to gather and make a plan," Alanna said as she floated down to her family. "Angelina, you need to gather the priestesses, you know what to do. Mom, grandmother, gather the legacies and help everyone get settled," Alanna said seriously before turning to the rest with a smile. "Everything will be fine. Call to me if you need to," she reassured them before joining the other deities, disappearing up into the sky and boarding a ship that Magus had conjured for this very moment.

On the other side of the world, in a city called Urbs, a group of men, leaders of the Venator Order and the top leaders of the world's governments were gathered in Coetus, the main headquarters from which they gathered and operated. The Donatus who worked for them had portaled them from all over the world for this meeting. "Sir, we received reports this morning that many of the Execratus were headed to Ubertas. It seems they are gathering for something," Regin, one of the advisors to the head council reported to the leader, Albus, who wore a permanent scowl on his face most of the time. "Maybe this has something to do with the prophecy," Regin added. "What prophecy?" One of the government leaders asked. "According to the Execratus, there's a prophecy that foretells the reincarnation of a goddess, Lucia, who is apparently meant to unite them," Regin answered. "Enough! Bring Liviana so we can get some answers!" Albus growled menacingly. Liviana, head of the Venator's high priestesses, a willing volunteer who had long worked with the order, stepped in. Albus hated the old crone but her hate for her own people and her power made her a necessary ally. "Liviana, tell us about this goddess prophecy!" Albus spat gruffly. "It is said that Lucia, Goddess of Light, will be reborn as Donatus and unite her people, bringing them into a golden age of peace and prosperity..." Liviana started. "Skip the damn story! Is it true or not?" Albus growled impatiently. "The Execratus believe it to be true. However, I can't say I have seen any evidence that proves it to be so, dominus meus," Liviana said bowing her head at Albus. "What can you tell us about these reports that the Execratus are flocking to Ubertas?" Albus asked. "All I know is there is something there that's drawing them there. I myself have felt it, much to my chagrin," the old crone answered with a sneer. She hated the Execratus with a passion, even though she herself was one. She believed in the mission of the Venator, she believed only a few were meant to have power. She'd been rejected from being high priestess and excommunicated from her tribe for siphoning magic from her fellow priestesses and unsuspecting children, leading to their deaths. She was power hungry and wanted to be above the others. She was not alone, the few of those like her who'd volunteered their services to the Venator in exchange for power and protection bore similar beliefs.

"We must do something about this. Who knows what those monstra are planning?" One of the men called out. "We cannot risk an uprising of usurpers!" Another one yelled. Albus was quiet for a moment before he spoke again. "The way I see it, we have a rare opportunity to wipe the lot of them off the face of this world for good. Make an example out of them so that the few left will be forced to sever their own connections to their curse!" Albus said with a malicious smile. "Liviana, prepare your priestesses! We attack at dawn!" Albus ordered. "B-but sir, no mundane has ever entered Ubertas!" Regin stuttered. "Liviana and her band of monstra will figure out a way by dawn, won't you Liviana? After all, I would hate to have you lot burned at the stake!" Albus said, that malicious smile still firmly planted on his face. Liviana did her best to hide her scowl, if their interests weren't aligned she'd have killed Albus and his 'merry band' ages ago but she needed him for her plan to work. Only when they'd succeeded in eviscerating the Execratus would she eliminate them and take her rightful place. That was her only comfort. The gathering broke out in murmurs. "Quiet! Prepare your armies. Praesides, we expect your full support!" Albus boomed before he stood to leave, his council following closely behind him. The leaders of the world's governments exchanged nervous glances. The Venator Order had put them in power, secured their positions. They couldn't turn against them, not if they wanted to retain their wealth, power and privilege. Liviana went off to gather her priestesses. Since they'd started working with the Venator their power was limited, especially their visions. She knew none of them would be able to see into the island, heavily warded as it was, but they weren't completely powerless, they'd figure out a way to lower the wards enough to make a way for the armies to enter by ship. Albus had been infuriated when Liviana had told him they couldn't portal into the island. "Why not? Aren't you supposed to be powerful?!" He'd yelled when she told him. "Powerful enough to lower the wards, certainly, but we don't have enough power to portal through the wards," she'd told him.

Back in Ubertas, the deities gathered in the skies engaged in discourse. "What is it Regina Mea?" Genarius asked Alanna, whose eyes were clouded over in a pure golden glow. Alanna's eyes cleared and her face glowed with rage. "They plan to attack at dawn! A group of priestesses has been assigned with the task of bringing down the wards around Ubertas to let their armies in!" She growled. Her whole body glowed, her rage coming off her in waves. Aimil rubbed his thumb over hers in circles. "Would you show us?" Lira asked. Once Alanna had shared her vision with them, the deities glowed with anger, their collective rage darkening the stars around them and thunder boomed from the clouds below them. "That traitor!" Marcelline snarled loudly. "We must keep the Donatus on the island safe and deal with this ourselves. We need to meet them at sea before they breach the wards," Guisto spoke with a deadly calmness. "Agreed! We need to put an end to this charade once and for all," Alanna said and the rest of the deities hummed in agreement. Genarius was tasked with keeping an eye on the order and their armies, alerting the other deities on any updates, Catori was tasked with feeding the order's priestesses with false vision while Magus was tasked with adding extra protective and cloaking shields over the wards that already existed around the island designed to keep the order's priestesses from portaling into the island. Alanna and Aimil went down, calling the magical beings to attention. The aqua spirituum were tasked with troubling the waters at Marina's signal, the sylph were tasked with creating strong winds to slow the order's armies while the ignis spiritus were to back Orianna when the time came to attack their adversaries. Catori, Genarius, Nox and Kiyara worked together to create a new purgatory where they'd imprison the souls of their enemies. They didn't need them in the circle of incarnation, poisoning the well on any world. Marina and her twin Marino created a shield in the waters to protect the creatures of the sea from the war that was about to rage. When preparations were done, the deities grounded in the island and asked the Donatus to stay out of the water and the skies until the war was over. Ava, her mother Eva, and the other legacies and high priestesses were tasked with ensuring the portals the Donatus used to travel to Ubertas were secure. Alanna and Aimil had dinner with their family while the other deities joined their legacies and descendants for a meal. Lira preferred to join Alanna's family for dinner since she was the only deity who'd preferred not to take a mate.
