To my surprise, when I stepped out of the door, one dog immediately saw me and bolted through the fence in a matter of seconds. The other dog, however, began running erratically around the yard, crashing into everything. Startled, I froze, watching the bizarre scene unfold. My thoughts raced as I tried to make sense of its unusual and unfamiliar behaviour. Then I noticed something even more unsettling the dog's right side was missing an eye. It felt surreal, like something out of a fairytale.
"Rebecca! Rebecca! Rebecca! Come out and see!" I shouted loudly, calling for my sister, who was cleaning the back yard at the time. She hurried over, and by the time she arrived, the dog had turned to face me. To our shared shock, we realized the dog was completely blind. It had no eyes. The sight filled us with questions: Who could have done something so cruel to this animal? What had the dog done to deserve such suffering?
Our neighbours speculated that this might be some kind of witchcraft, but we had no time to entertain their assumptions. The dog was clearly in pain and aggressively trying to navigate its way around the yard.
For thirty minutes, we tried many ways to drive the dog out of the yard, but it stubbornly refused to leave. Finally, my friend, who is often referred to as my twin brother, came to help. He grabbed a garden fork and forcefully dragged the dog out of the gate. The dog fought back, trying desperately to re-enter the yard, which only fuelled suspicions of supernatural involvement. My friend locked the gate firmly, and the dog finally began to walk away. Strangely, it seemed to move more normally on the street, perhaps because of the open space.
Where did the dog go? No one knows. Months passed, and I had to leave for a while. When I returned four months later, I asked around about the dog, but no one had seen it since that day.
Was it even a real dog, or was there something more sinister at play? We've chosen not to dwell too much on the incident, but the memory remains disturbing. None of us has ever witnessed such cruelty, and the experience continues to haunt us emotionally.
