The Karen

Most of us have met or experienced the arrogant or snobbish stuck-up females who act like ass-holes and think the world revolves around them. They’re the women who think their shit doesn’t stink and that they’re too good to be around regular people or those who they feel are less than them. They feel entitled, and anything less than exceptional is considered an insult to them. Most of us call them a "Karen" because of their entitled or privileged attitude. If you haven’t met those kinds of women, consider yourself lucky or, as some folk say, “blessed”.

Chapter 4

The Snowball Effect

Beth: Excuse me, but I have been standing in this line for almost 15 minutes, but you let that lady walk up and pay for her gas without getting in line!

Cashier: Ma'am, I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you, but she was having a problem with her debit card at the pump, so we allowed her to come in and pay.

Beth: I'm not interested in what her problem was. I think it was unfair for you to let her cut in front of the line! I think I should get my items for free for the inconvenience!

Cashier: Ma'am, I can't give you the items for free, but I can have the manager come out and speak with you about the situation. But I'll hold the items here, and you can step to the side while I ring up the other customers.

Beth: Fine?. get the manager! Please, hurry up! I have no more of my time to be wasting!

The manager walked out of the stockroom and came to the front counter. He and the cashier exchanged quiet words about what was going on, then he approached Beth with a warm smile.

Manager: Hello, ma'am. How can I help you?

Beth: Are you the manager?!

Manager: Yes, I am. What do you need?

Beth: I was standing in line for 15 minutes, and your cashier allowed a woman who was outside at the pump to come in and get serviced before me and the other customers standing in line. I think that you should give me my items for free. I shouldn't have to pay because it was an inconvenience to me.

Manager: Ma'am, we apologize for the wait, and we appreciate your patience, but I'm not allowed to give you those items for free. I can discount your purchase just this one time.

Beth: Why can't you just pay for it out of your pocket?!

Manager: Ma'am, I offered to discount your purchase, but I will not pay for those items for you. It seemed that you were the only customer who had a complaint about the cashier helping the other customer.

Beth: The customer is always right, and you are supposed to give me what I want!

Manager: Ma'am, do you want your items? If so, I will give you a 15% discount, otherwise you need to leave the store.

Beth: NO! You're going to pay for my items, and I'm not leaving here until you do!

Manager: Please, leave the store, or I will call the police and have you removed.

Beth: I don't care! You can go to hell!

Beth grabbed her items and then walked around the store, knocking items off the shelves and pouring soda from the fountain on the floor. Other customers walked into the store, shocked as they watched Beth acting crazy and causing damage in the store.

The manager called the police as Beth continued opening bags of chips, eating some, and pouring the rest on the floor. The manager tried to stop Beth's rage and warned her that the authorities were on the way.

Customer: Looks like y'all got a real live "Karen" in here.

Beth: Damn you! My name is not Karen, bitch!

Customers were recording Beth's behavior and laughing at her as she continued causing destruction and cussing at everyone. Then Beth hurried out the door to her car and immediately drove off.
