In the corner of the room, where sun light filters in there was Evelyn an old woman who sat by her window gazing at a time worn box of letters. Her hands trembled as she picked up one particular envelope that had turned its edges yellow with age. She carefully unfolded it to find the hand writing of her late husband Thomas.

Decades and decades ago their story started. They met at a summer festival, locked eyes on a dance floor, fell in love and were married within the year. Their lives had become fabric and thread for over fifty years. Time had taken his toll on Thomas. He was back gone inside himself and finally consumed by disease. The slow decline of strength witnessed by Eve her beloved.

In the envelope, Thomas had written one last letter, penned just days before his death. Evelyn read the words, her heart aching with each line:

"My Dearest Evelyn,

If you're reading this, then it must be time for me to go. I want to tell you one last thing that I never got a chance to say when I was still with you. Ever since the day that I met you, you became my everything. I've loved every second of it, every laugh, every tear.

The happiest days I ever knew were when you first loved me. And since that day, my life has been nothing but beautiful regret. Regret that I did not love you as much as I could have. Regret that I will leave this world never having shown you the kind of love I hold in my heart for you. The kind of love we both deserved.

I would like you to know that my love for you is forever. Wherever I am, I will take our memories with me. In case you ever feel alone, just close your eyes and remember my voice and touch, then the warmth of my love.

I pray you will find comfort with the passing of time?and that your heart will begin to mend. I'm here for you sweetheart?and I'll be right beside you, whenever you're alone and missing me.

Yours forever,

Thomas"

Evelyn's tears flowed freely as she read to the end. She pressed the letter to her heart, its burden so heavy, a love that outlasted time and strain. The room that had filled with laughter and life was now impossibly still.

As the sun disappeared below the horizon, Evelyn whispered one last goodbye to Thomas, her soulmate. She knew one day she would leave as well, but until then she took comfort in knowing their love had lived on past the world they had known together.
