"Oh! I'm so sorry!" Mia exclaimed, looking up to meet the gaze of a tall stranger. His dark hair was tousled, and his deep green eyes sparkled with surprise.
"No harm done," he replied, a warm smile spreading across his face. "I should have been watching where I was going. I'm Jake."
"Mia," she said, feeling a flutter in her stomach as their eyes locked. There was something magnetic about him, something that made her forget her worries for a moment.
"Are you okay?" Jake asked, bending down to pick up her fallen umbrella. "Looks like it took quite a hit."
"I'm fine, just a little flustered," Mia admitted, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I have a big presentation tomorrow, and I guess I was lost in thought."
"Presentations can be nerve-wracking," he said, handing her the umbrella. "What's it about?"
"It's about our new marketing strategy," she explained, her confidence growing as she spoke. "I'm trying to convince the board that we need to take a more digital approach."
"Sounds interesting! I'm sure you'll do great," Jake encouraged, his eyes twinkling with sincerity. "If you need a practice audience, I'd be happy to help."
Mia felt a blush creep up her cheeks. "Really? That would be amazing. I could use all the practice I can get."
"Let's grab a coffee sometime. I'd love to hear more about it," he suggested, pulling out his phone. "What's your number?"
Mia hesitatedfor a moment, her heart racing. Was she really about to give her number to a stranger? But something about Jake felt right. "It's 555-0123," she said, her voice steady.
"Got it. I'll text you," he said, flashing that charming smile again. "And don't worry, you'll nail that presentation. Just remember to breathe."
"Thanks, Jake. I really appreciate it," Mia replied, feeling a spark of excitement. As they exchanged goodbyes, she couldn't shake the feeling that this encounter was the beginning of something special.
As she walked away, Mia glanced back to see Jake watching her, a hint of a smile still on his lips. She felt a rush of hope and anticipation. Maybe, just maybe, this was the start of a new chapter in her life.
