Chapter 14: The Final Escape

We stumbled into the library, desperate for a way out. The grandfather clock stood in the corner, its symbols glowing faintly.

"What do we do?" Rena screamed, her face streaked with tears.

"Set it!" I shouted, fumbling with the symbols. "We have to go back!"

The monster burst through the door, his eyes blazing with fury.

"You can't escape me!" he roared, lunging at us.

At the last second, I pressed the final symbol. The clock chimed, and everything went white. When we opened our eyes, we weren't in the mansion We were standing in a field, the wind howling around us. The sky was blood-red, and the air smelled of sulfur.

"Where are we?" Rena whispered.

I turned to see a figure standing in the distance. It was a woman, her dark hair flowing in the wind. She looked just like my mother.

"No," I said, my voice shaking. "It can't be."

The woman turned, and her eyes locked onto mine. They were filled with pain - and something darker.

"Amelia," she said, her voice cold. "You shouldn't have come here."

And then the ground beneath us began to crack, the earth splitting open to reveal a void of darkness.

We fell, screaming, into the abyss.
