Stephanie and Sophia are twins who share everything. They both loved playing outside with friends and spending time with their families. But one day, that all changed. Stephanie woke up one day and decided she didn't like the same things as her sister anymore. She wanted to dress up, and her sister liked to go exploring. Her sister liked pets and animals, and she did not.
"Come on, girls, it's time to attend your scout's meeting." Their mom yelled.
" Oh, Mom, I don't want to go there anymore. I'm not excited about it. Why can't you take Sophia? She loves it." Stephanie said as she dragged herself to the car.
After their scout meeting, the girls headed to the ice cream shop. This was one of the things that they still enjoyed doing together. While the girls enjoyed their ice cream. Stephanie thought it was a perfect time to discuss her issues with her sister. "Hey, Soph, I want to take a break from everything we do. I'm not too fond of nature, that's what you like. I want to do things I like for a change. Is that ok with you?" Stephanie said to her sister.
"It is ok, Steph. I know you always do things I like, but I want you to be happy too. I'm not mad. We can still see each other at home." Sophia said. Sophia was very understanding and aware of her sister's feelings. She wanted her to be happy and not miserable. After all, Stephanie always will be her best friend.
Later that night, Stephanie went to talk to her mom. She explained how she felt.
"Even though we are twins, I don't want to dress alike, and I don't want my hair the same as my sister's anymore. I want to be my own person. I'mtired of being referred to as Sophia's twin. I want a room of my own. Why do we have to share everything? I want to make new friends and be around people with the same things in common."
Her mom was understanding and realized the girls were getting older. The same things that they once enjoyed together seem to be a pastime. Her mom thought it was some phase but still agreed to let the girls have their own space and appearance. Over the next few weeks, Sophia and Stephanie did different things. Sophia went to the park almost daily to play with her new friends. Although she missed her sister, she wanted to give her space to explore her individuality.
After much consideration, Stephanie finally got her room and was thrilled. With each passing day, Sophia came home to an empty room. She wondered why Stephanie took the measures to transition into another room. Sophia felt so sad without her sister. Stephanie felt very happy about being able to do the things that she liked with others. Even when the girls went to school, Stephanie ignored Sophia. She wanted to enjoy her freedom and felt like her sister was suffocating her. This made Sophia feel discouraged.
The next day, Sophia felt like school was dragging and she was bored. Later, she invited Stephanie and her friends to sit with her at lunch. She missed her sister so much. After lunch, Stephanie and some friends went to the library to read. She told Sophia that she would see her later. The girls giggled and walked away. Sophia didn't like being left out and wondered if this was how Stephanie always felt when they were together. When the school day was through, it was time to head home.
Sophia went into Stephanie's roomto talk at home, but she wasn't there. As Sophia started to leave, Stephanie came inside with her friend Amelia and an invitation. " Look, Soph, Mom said I could go!" she said excitedly. It's my first real slumber party, yay! "
"That isn't fair, and I want to go," Sophia said as she crossed her arms.
" Well, you can't. You weren't invited. Get out of my room. I need to pack." Stephanie said as she closed her door.
Sophia was very jealous and decided to do something to ruin this opportunity for her sister. She waited for Stephanie to go downstairs, then snuck back into her room and put bugs inside her sleepaway bag. Then she put itching powder in her clothes and hairbrush. She laughed as she continued to ruin Stephanie's things. Sophia felt that since she couldn't go, she could embarrass her sister at all costs. That will teach her sister a lesson for leaving her out. Stephanie went to Amelia's sleepover party. At first, she had fun until she felt terrible for leaving Sophia at home alone."Hey Amelia, we should invite my sister. I feel kind of sad for leaving her out, " Stephanie said.
"Sure. Why not? I didn't invite her because I thought you wouldn't want me to. Call her, and my mom can go pick her up." Amelia said with relief.
Stephanie called her sister and invited her to the slumber party. It wasn't the same without Sophia.
Amelia's mom picked up Sophia and brought her to the sleepover. She was excited to go. Once there, she and the other girls had a great time together. She didn't feel left out anymore and didn't mind sharing Stephanie. When it was bedtime, she realized that she sabotaged Stephanie's things and tried to fix them. She offered her sister someof her clothes. Stephanie already knew what Sophia had done because she and the other girls had found the icky bugs. That was one of the reasons she asked to have her sister there with her. She knew that Sophia was upset and jealous of how she acted. So, Stephanie wanted to make things right with her sister.
"I know you didn't mean what you did, Soph. I was upset at first. I am sorry. You are my twin, my sister, and my best friend. I have a three-for-one deal with you forever. I love you, but I felt like you were smothering me. We will always have each other; never forget that, " Stephanie explained.
"I'm sorry, Steph, and I love you, too. Let's never fight again," Sophia said.
The girls apologized for being envious and irritating to one another. They agreed to give each other space so everyone was happy. They had a great time at the slumber party together. The rest of the night, they watched movies, ate snacks, told stories, and even had a pillow fight.
The following day, it was time to go home. Sophia and Stephanie had a discussion with their mom. They expressed their concerns and addressed many things to make everyone feel included and have their own sense of identity. They decided to share a room again with some minor adjustments. The girls got a bunk bed, separate desks for homework, and sliding doors for privacy if needed. Stephanie started hanging out with Sophia a little more but still doing what she liked. Sophia learned to share with her sister and not be resentful.
