In a quite modest town a small car can be seen pulling into the driveway of two story home. In this car resides a married couple from Michigan. This couple was Lauren and Mark Fisher. Lauren was sitting in the car politely waiting for her husband to get off the phone with their friend, Gale, who kindly lent one of his guest homes to them while they were in Virginia for Mark's work. Mark is a highly demanded lawyer and was always busy, so not uncommon for his work to take him out of state periodicly. Normally Lauren would stay home but since thier friend lent them a home to use she decided to join this time. As Mark finished his phone call the couple got out of the car and began to inspect their new home for the next few months.
The lay out of the first floor consists of a bathroom and a kitchen that you enter immediately upon opening the front door and a large living room leading to the staircase for access to the second floor. As they come to the top of the stairs they can see it is made up of a bedroom, another bathroom and a locked room with no way to access it. Lauren noted how strange it was and they both decided to stay away from the mysterious locked room and began settling in.
It took them about two days to get completely settled and on the start of the third day, Mark started doing his work routine. He would wake up fairly early each day and go on run before Laren would wake up. After his run he would get showered and dressed for work and he was gone until dusk most days making him very tired and slept almost directly after returning home from work. While Mark was at work, Lauren explored the town and maintained the house. As the days went on Lauren started to noticing strange occurances such as unexplained noises, items seemed to be moved from where they were placed and broken items and sink faucets turning on with no explaination. Every night she woke up to hearing foot steps outside thier bedroom door, electronics being turned on and always had the strange sensation of being watched at all times of day. Almost a month passed and the strange unexplanable noises seemed to become more frequent. Lauren did not want to tell Mark about the incidences because he was already stressed enough from his work.
One morning after Mark leaves for work Lauren spots a suspicious looking woman she has not seen in the neighborhood sense arriving there walking up the street and she seemed to be taking an interest in the house. Thinking nothing of it she continues her usual routine by going to town for groceries and household things. Upon returning to the house a few hours later, Lauren noticed the same woman was still walking around near the house still taking much interest in the property. She called husband at work, as she started to worry, and told him about the woman. Taking into consideration of his wifes paranioa Mark told her she was probably just walking around exercising. Reassured by her husbands words she hung up the phone only to begin hearing the strange sounds again. She was starting to think the house was haunted and let the noises slide and tried ignoring them.
Moments later she heard a knock at the door.
Startled by the sound she slowly walked over and opened the door only to be greeted by the woman she saw walking around her home. Confused and a little on edge Lauren asked how she could help the woman. The woman explained she was a sales representative and would like to talk about a product she was selling. After telling her no the woman tried to force her way into the home only to be met by Mark returning from work. Curious he asked what was going on and the shady sales rep. told him she wanted to do an in-home demo of some of her products. He explained to her that they do not actually live here and they were invite to use the house while here on business. She insisted to a demo and would not take no an answer. Mark excused himself for a moment to make a phone call while Lauren was left alone with the woman who looked to be studying the house.
She asked Lauren if there were anyother people that are residing in the home with them. Very hesitent she replayed they were the only people there and her husband was gone during the day. After hearing this the woman gave a crooked smile which gave Lauren goosebumps and she called for her husband. Mark re-emerged from the other room and told the woman that she could come by next week and do a demonstration. Satisfied the woman agreed and went on her way. After she left Lauren expressed that she did not feel safe being alone with her. Mark told her that she would be fine and just to humour the woman so she do her job and be on her way.
Later on that night Lauren woke up to get a drink of water. When she got to the kitchen, it was silent. Eeriely silent which made Lauren nervous because she was used to hearing noises from no where. After getting a drink she made her way to bathroom. While using the bathroom she heard a sudden bang come from the kitchen and quickly went to check it out. When she got back to the kitchen she noticed a chair was knocked over. When she went to pick it up, she saw a figure of a person in the corner of her eye run into the living room. Shaking and scared she yelled for Mark who came running down the stairs to find out why his wife was so freighted in the middle of the night. She told him that she had seen a person and all the things that have been going on sense they moved there.
When morning came Mark called Gale and told him everything that's been happening from the suspicious woman the alleged haunting experiences. Gale assured them both that the house is not haunted and didn't know anything about a woman or company doing in-home demos of anything in the neighborhood. He continued to tell them if they see or are contacted by any strange individuals again to call him and he'll come right over.
Over the next few days as Mark was at work and Lauren kept thinking about how she saw a person or ghost that night and what it wanted. Baffled at the possibilty of the house being haunted she stayed out longer than usual to avoid hearing or seeing things again.
One morning, Lauren woke up and Mark had already gone to work. He left her a note stating:
"Today the sales rep. will be here to demonstrate her products. If at any point you don't feel safe call someone and then call me right away and I'll be there as soon as possible."
Angry and in shock she couldn't believe her husband would leave her home alone knowing that a complete stranger is going to be in the house alone with her for who knows how long. Knowing there was nothing she could to prevent the woman from returning she anxiously waited for her arrival and desprately hoped she would not show up. Through all her wishful thinking there it was, the knock on the door. As she had feared walking over to answer it there stood the woman.
She stood there with no product as she entered the house. As she looked around she could clearly tell that I was alone and no one else was around. She closed the door behind her and began making her way Lauren. The closer she got the more Lauren retreated but was inevitably cornered by the woman. It was clear now that the woman was there with the intent to steal from them. Scared, Lauren tried to run but was only met with the intruder knocking her over and pointing a gun to her face. Paralyzed with fear thinking she was going to die, she saw in the corner of her eye the same figure from that night.
It was a man dressed in ragged clothes, no shoes and very thin. He ran up behind the intruder grabbing her while trying to knock the gun from her hands. She got loose but he grabbed her again from the front and they fought over the gun. Lauren heard a gun shot and covered her face. She heard the door open and close after which she uncovered her face only to be met with the sight of her rescuer laying on the floor in a pool of blood from the gun shot wound he had received.
Lauren called 911 immediately while trying to talk to the man and keep him alive but by the time the paramedics and police officers arrived the man had passed away.
The police asked Lauren for a discription of the woman and the events leading up to her arrival. Shell shocked she gave them what they asked for and called her husband and Gale. As Mark arrived to the house she hugged him and told her she called someone as soon as she was safe just like he asked. Confused he informed her he did not write a note to her this morning. With a bewildered look on her face she thought "Was the man trying to warn me?".
Lauren attended the mans funeral service which had little to no people there. When the service concluded and Lauren was walking to her car with her husband by her side she got a phone call from the police asking for her to come in and identify possible suspects. She went and positivily pointed out the intruder from the line up. Feeling a sense of closure her husband had decided to buy the man a tombstone. As one final thank you to the unknown man they had the tombstone placed before they went back to Michigan.
It read 'Here Lies A Selfless Heroic Man'.
