The sun was shining bright. The village, popularly known as Koutukpur located in West Bengal was bustling in joy. A fair was organized by the village locals at the community ground on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami.
Somewhere, on a dusty road sat a tender girl named Rina. She lost her parents one year back because of the contagious jaundice mallitus. Her aunt and uncle adopted her later.
The poor child wept heavily. Her aunt Bimla kicked her out of the house, locked it and went to the fair with Ramen Ghosh, her husband.
An old man was passing by Rina. He noticed the wretched condition of the girl and stopped by. His shaky hand made a soft landing on Rina's head. Rina lifted her head, looked at the strange man and sobbed again.
The old man became curious and raised a question. "What is the matter miss? Why your pretty eyes are filled with tears?" Rina replied, "A fair is being held at our village. Everybody has gone to enjoy that, but I am unfortunate". By saying that she bursted into tears once more.
The old man murmured, "How a lady, who is symbolised as nurturer of love could do this? This poor girl must be compensated" He then said " Get up my princess. We will visit the fair" Rina stood up in excitement and agreed to the proposal.
They took some brisk walks and reached the fair ground. The fair threw colorful looks with rides operating without breaks. The food stalls attracted people of all ages because of mouth watering delicacies being prepared and served. All those scenes filled Rina's mind with joy. The old man read her mind and offered her to enjoy the rides.
Rina enjoyed the ride on the gaint wheelfirst. She made joyous shouts with each descend.
The next turn was of merry go round. Rina laughed aloud when the ride gathered momentum.
The fun-filled activities were followed by bioscope session and dinning treats. It was turning dark. Rina thanked the old man for memorable treats and returned home.
