Chapter 6 Wandering Spirits part 5

On Sunday morning, Gabriela stood by the roadside in the Wiyung area, trying to calm herself amidst the crowd. She looked around, trying to find clues that could lead her to Hernia Ginawati. This search felt like looking for a needle in a haystack, but he didn't want to give up so easily.

After some time asking the locals, including the young people gathered at the coffee shop, the answer she always got was the same: no one knew the name Hernia Ginawati. Gabriela tried to remain calm even though frustration began to creep in.

She then saw a motorcycle taxi stand around the corner. Some motorcycle taxi drivers were sitting and chatting casually, enjoying their morning coffee. Gabriela decided to try her luck there. She stepped closer, drawing the attention of the drivers who stopped their conversations to look at her.

"Excuse me, sir," Gabriela began politely. "I am looking for someone named Hernia Ginawati." She is a student at Surabaya International School. Does anyone know her?"

The motorcycle taxi drivers looked at each other and shook their heads in unison. One of them, a big-built man with a helmet in his hand, replied, "Wow, ma'am, sorry. That name doesn't seem familiar here.

Gabriela took a deep breath, trying to hide her disappointment. "Alright, thank you, Sir." She bowed slightly as a sign of respect and decided to end her search.

Just a few steps away from leaving the base, the sound of a motorcycle engine stopped him. A motorcycle taxi driver had just arrived at the base. He took off his helmet while joking with his friends, "Hey, why didn't that pretty girl take a ride?"

Another motorcycle taxi driver replied while laughing, "She's not looking for a motorcycle taxi, Man. She said she's looking for someone named Hernia Ginawati." An international school student, you know."

The man who had just arrived, whose name turned out to be Oman, immediately flinched upon hearing that name. "Hernia Ginawati?" Is that the one I usually go to?"Is that my regular customer?" Gabriela, who overheard the conversation, immediately turned around.

Gabriela, who overheard the conversation, immediately turned around. She approached Oman quickly, her eyes shining with hope. "Sir, do you know Hernia Ginawati?""he asked with a firm yet enthusiastic tone."

Oman nodded, his face looking a bit confused. "Yes, Ma'am." Hernia used to often be picked up and dropped off by me. But he hasn't asked for a ride in a long time. Why, Ma'am? What's wrong with him?"What's wrong with him?" Gabriela caught her breath. "Do you know where I can find him?"

Gabriela regulated her hurried breath. "Sir, do you know where I can find it?" "This is very important," she said without explaining the real reason.

Oman thought for a moment, then replied, "I usually take Hernia to her house in that alley over there, Ma'am." He pointed to a quiet little street. "But I don't know if she's still there or not. It's been a long time since she last called me."

"Thank you, Sir," Gabriela said while nodding quickly. Without wasting any time, she walked towards the alley indicated by Oman, her heart racing.

Gabriela walked slowly towards the alley indicated by Oman. The alley wasn't very long, but it felt quiet with only a few houses lined up on either side. His heart was pounding, his mind filled with various speculations. Is Hernia really here? And if so, what really happened to her?

When Gabriela almost reached the end of the alley, she saw a group of mothers sitting in front of a house, talking in low voices but looking serious. Gabriela approached them cautiously. "Excuse me, ma'am," she greeted politely. "Does anyone know where Hernia Ginawati lives?"

The mothers looked at each other before one of them pointed to a house across the street. "That's her house, dear. But..." the woman paused for a moment, hesitating to continue her sentence.

"Why, Ma'am?" Gabriela asked curiously.

"She seems to have a mental disorder now, Sis." Sometimes he screams by himself, sometimes he acts like he's possessed. It's sad, even her family is confused about what to do," explained one of them with a tone of concern.

Gabriela felt her breath catch. Mental illness? Possession? He tried to dispel his fear and immediately headed towards the indicated house. The house looked simple, with a wooden door slightly ajar. Gabriela was just about to knock on the door when suddenly a loud scream was heard from inside.

"LEAVE ME ALONE..! I WAS FORCED TO DO IT TOO! GO... GO!!!"

The scream was so piercing that Gabriela staggered back a few steps. She looked into the house with her body slightly trembling. The atmosphere fell silent all of a sudden, but the air around felt heavy, almost as if something was pressing down.

Gabriela stood frozen in front of the door, trying to gather her courage. Who forced Hernia? And what does she mean by "doing it"? His mind was filled with various possibilities, but he knew one thing: Hernia held the answer to this mystery.

After a moment, Gabriela steeled herself. With trembling hands, she knocked on the door. "Excuse me... I'm Gabriela. I just want to talk," she said in a soft yet firm voice. She waited with a pounding heart, hoping Hernia could provide the clue she had been searching for all along.

Gabriela had just knocked on the door when a middle-aged woman with a weary face opened it. Her face showed a mix of exhaustion and sorrow, and her eyes looked red as if she had just been crying.

"Excuse me, Ma'am. I'm Gabriela. I came to see Hernia," said Gabriela cautiously.

The woman sighed deeply before answering. "I'm sorry, dear. Hernia... she's not doing well." Sometimes he screams by himself, sometimes he is silent like a frightened person. "We have tried everything, but we don't know what else to do."

Gabriela looked at the woman with pity. "I understand, Ma'am. But I have to talk to him." I think she knows something important. Please, give me a chance. Whatever the risk, I'm ready."

The woman looked at Gabriela with doubt, but seeing the determination in Gabriela's eyes, she finally nodded slowly. "Alright. But please don't make her more scared. She has suffered enough."

Gabriela nodded firmly. "Thank you, Ma'am. I will be careful."

The woman guided Gabriela to a room at the back of the house. When the door opened, Gabriela saw Hernia curled up in the corner of her bed, with eyes full of fear. Her hair was tangled, and her face looked pale. Hernia shivers, as if protecting herself from something unseen.

Gabriela stepped in cautiously. "Hernia... I'm Gabriela," she said gently, trying not to make the girl more scared. "I want to help." Who bothered you, Hernia?"Who is bothering you, Hernia?"

Hernia slowly lifted her head, staring at Gabriela with a blank expression. His lips trembled as he tried to speak. "Th... th... th... that..." she said, stammering, while pointing to the corner of the room.

Gabriela turned to follow the direction of Hernia's finger. Suddenly, her body tensed. In the dark corner of the room, Arina's spirit stood. However, this time her figure looked much more terrifying than before. Her face was pale and held an angry expression, her eyes radiated cold hatred, and her shadow seemed to pulse like a wave.

"Arina..." Gabriela whispered, trying to calm herself. She knew she had to do something. "Go, Arina!" she shouted more firmly. "If you want all of this to be done, let me talk to Hernia." Don't disturb her anymore!

The spirit of Arina growled, the voice shaking the air in the room. Hernia trembled more and more in the corner of her bed. However, slowly, Arina's figure faded, disappearing from view. The atmosphere in the room fell silent again, although the air still felt heavy.

Gabriela took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. She then knelt in front of Hernia, looking at her with full patience. "Hernia, I know you're scared." But I need to know what really happened. What happened to Arina? "What do you know?" she asked gently.

Hernia looked at Gabriela with a gaze full of worry. Her lips parted as if wanting to speak, but the words seemed stuck in her throat. Gabriela waited patiently, knowing that Hernia's answer was the key to solving this mystery.

This story resonates with me deeply because it reminds me of a time when I, too, found myself in an unfamiliar and intimidating environment, surrounded by people and luxuries I wasn’t used to. Like Gabriela, I felt out of place, clinging to small comforts that reminded me of where I came from. I also encountered someone like Arina—someone whose quiet presence and mysterious nature intrigued me and left a lasting impression. Reading this brought back those memories of navigating new beginnings, balancing self-doubt with determination, and uncovering the hidden layers of those around me.
