There was an old mansion in the vicinity of a run-down neighborhood in Hong Kong. The long hallway at the mansion sent chills down the spine. It was also revealed that 2 young children, an 8 year old boy and his 7 year old sister had been reported missing near the neighbourhood 10 years ago, where they were last seen at the void deck riding their bicycles. However, ever since the disappearance of the 2 children, people reportedly heard an eerie voice coming from the hallway of the mansion, but none was any the wiser as to how the voice came about, as anyone who heard the eerie voice would quickly run out of the mansion without finding out the origin of the voice.
One day, a group of secondary school students, Elvis, Wallace, Frank, Sheila and Erica went on a field visit to the estate for their school project. At the same time, for some inexplicable reason, they decided to check out the mansion, which had long since stood still. The main door was unlocked, so Frank pushed open the door. The hallway was pitch dark. There was an eerie feeling in them when they entered the mansion. However, the students still wanted to check out the mansion. As they walked along the hallway, the eerie feeling intensified, as if to say, "I have a feeling that something bad is going to happen." Nevertheless, the students remained undeterred. Elvis turned on the torchlight as they walked along the hallway. Suddenly, they could hear a melancholic voice in the hallway. But when they looked around, there was no one there.
"Did anyone hear that?" Frank asked, with his voice a little more than a whisper.
"Yes, it was so scary," Sheila and Erica replied. "Especially when there's no one there."
"Hello?" Wallace called out.But there was no reply. "Is someone here?" Still no reply.
"Maybe this is just a prank?" Frank said. "It might be the work of some kids?"
"This can't be possible," Elvis said. "No one stays in this neighbourhood any longer, especially after the disappearance of the 2 children 10 years ago."
Just then, the melancholic voice could be heard again. The students initially wanted to run out of the mansion, but eventually, curiosity got the better of them and they decided to check out the origin of the voice. As they walked further along the hallway, the voice intensified. It came from a barrel. Elvis lifted the lid of the barrel. To their horror, they saw 2 young skeletons buried under the barrel containing soil. Frank and Wallace put their hands over their mouth in shock. Sheila and Erica embraced. Just then, Elvis spotted a pen below the barrel. He picked it up and out of curiosity, pressed a button, where he heard a conversation in the background, which sounded like a conspiracy. He immediately called the police and told them what they had found. Forensic investigations confirmed that the skeletons found in the barrel of soil belonged to that of the 2 children, who had been reported missing 10 years ago, and their cause of death was suffocation. Police investigations further revealed that the 2 children had been dead before they were reported missing, hence determining that the missing persons report was an attempt to cover up their deaths. After a long and thorough investigation, it was revealed that the children's aunt was the murderer. She had been the guardian of the children after their parents passed away. The parents of the children had left them a massive inheritance, which would belong to them when they turn 18. The aunt, greedyfor the inheritance, hatched a plan to get her hands on it. She hired 2 thugs to have the 2 children killed, which they did by suffocating them. She collaborated with the thugs to bury the bodies of the 2 children into the barrel with soil. After that, she gave them money to flee Hong Kong, and reported the 2 children missing to cover up the murder. However, she had neglected the pen recorder which the children had accidentally left behind while playing a few days before their death, the very pen recorder which recorded evidence of her crimes.
The perpetrators were eventually apprehended and dealt with to the fullest extent of the law. As far as anyone was concerned, the case was closed. Besides getting an A for the school project, Elvis, Wallace, Frank, Sheila and Erica were commended for having solved the cold case.
