Vincent was working in the office as usual. Unlike previous days, that day was quite uneventful. Suddenly, his mobile phone rang.
"May I speak to Mr Vincent Cheung Yat-man please?"
"Yes, speaking," Vincent said.
"Mr Cheung, we're calling from the police. Your daughter has been involved in an accident earlier." Upon hearing the bad news, Vincent's face turned pale and his hand was trembling. After finding out the location where the accident took place, he applied for urgent leave from his boss and rushed to the accident scene where his daughter Elise was found lying in a pool of blood. He quickly rushed her to the hospital, where she was wheeled to the operating theater. An hour later, the operation ended, and doctors came out of the operating theater. However, their expressions were solemn.
"Your daughter is in critical condition," said one of the doctors. Vincent felt his world shatter. He pleaded for the doctors to save Elise, to which they promised to do everything in their power.
Vincent was at a loss. He then realized that his wife Mona, who was supposed to fetch Elise, was nowhere to be seen. He called her on her mobile phone at least 20 times, but all the calls went straight to voicemail.
Just then, Vincent received a notification on his mobile phone. He saw that it was the trending news about powerful influencer Greg Fok, who had recently returned to Hong Kong, possibly due to his new love relationship. He used to be the heir of a wealthy businessman, but gave up his family business to become an influencer. For some reason, Vincent decided to check out the news. However, when he saw the photo, his face turned pale. In the photo, Greg was seen kissing a woman who had a butterfly birthmark on her neck. Vincentrecognised the butterfly birthmark as Mona's. As for Greg's name, it was all too familiar to Vincent. He was none other than Mona's ex-boyfriend. Greg and Mona used to be a couple during high school, but Greg dumped Mona when the latter's family lost their wealth, and went overseas without a trace. Due to the breakup, Mona tried to commit suicide, but Vincent found her in the nick of time and rushed her to the hospital. After she recovered, Mona went overseas to look for Greg, and it was unknown what happened between them. However, after Mona returned, she was seen waiting outside Vincent's house. When she saw him, she was in tears. She pleaded for Vincent to marry her. As he had been secretly in love with her all along, he agreed. He also repaid her family's debts. Vincent's face turned crimson red upon seeing the photo. Elise was saved after a 12-hour long operation. However, she was still in a coma. Vincent called his friend, Leon to investigate Elise's accident.
Mona did not return Vincent's calls. When she rushed to the hospital, it was for her client's court case. Her eyes met Vincent's. "What are you doing here?" she asked. However, when she saw Elise on the hospital bed, she was stunned. Instead of trying to apologise, she blamed Vincent for not contacting her earlier about Elise's accident. She even alleged that he was responsible. This disgusted Vincent, who pulled her to a side. That was when he noticed an expensive watch on Mona's wrist. He knew that it was a gift from Greg. Mona desperately tried to hide the watch with her sleeve. Vincent also saw love bites on her, which she tried to hide. He could no longer contain his anger, and asked about her whereabouts duringElise's accident. "I was busy at work. The law firm took on a major case, and I put my mobile phone on silent mode. I didn't notice the calls coming in," Mona replied half-heartedly, while avoiding eye contact with Vincent. This confirmed his suspicions that Mona was with Greg during Elise's accident.
Just then, Vincent received a call from Leon. He released his grip on Mona and answered the call. Leon told him over the phone that the perpetrator of Elise's accident was drink-driving, and had just exited a pub when the accident happened. He promised to help Vincent retrieve the CCTV footage in the vicinity of the accident scene. Mona was behind, listening in on the phone conversation. She promised to bring the perpetrator to justice. Just as Vincent was heartened to see Mona's conscience show, Leon continued over the phone, "Oh yes, Brother Man, the perpetrator is Francis Fok. I think he is the younger brother of influencer Greg Fok." After thanking Leon, Vincent hung up the phone. He noticed that Mona's expression did not seem right, but she claimed she was worried about Elise. When they visited Elise inside the ward, Mona claimed she needed to make a call, and left the ward. She returned with Greg and 2 police officers. One of the police officers gave Vincent a document. "Mr Cheung, our findings show that your daughter's accident is an ordinary road accident. If there are no disagreements, may both parties please sign this document for out of court settlement?" the police officer addressed. Vincent was dumbfounded. "Officer, there must be a mistake somewhere. How can this be an ordinary road accident? It is clearly a hit-and-run accident, and my daughter is still in a coma. Moreover, the perpetrator was seen exiting the pub before the accident. He was obviously drink-driving. How can I settle this out of court?" he said agitatedly, unable to believe what he had just heard. The 2 police officers were silent for a while, but after a while, they continued, "No, it's not a hit-and-run accident. The perpetrator was just sitting on the road for a short while due to an injury. This is what our investigations reveal. Please cooperate." In the midst of their conversation, Vincent could see the police officer exchange furtive glances with Greg. He suddenly put his arms into his pockets. Turning to Vincent, he said in a condescending tone, "I have already found out the truth. It was a pure accident. My brother didn't mean to run your daughter over." He then snapped his fingers, and 2 men entered the ward, one of them carried a briefcase. He unlocked the briefcase, which revealed wads of $50 notes. "There's $500,000 in the briefcase, more than enough to save your daughter. Hope you can accept the money," Greg said coldly. Before Vincent could say anything, the other man spoke. "If I hadn't run your daughter over, your family wouldn't have the chance to get this money. Think about it. You can never earn this amount even if you worked throughout your life," he said condescendingly. That was when Vincent realized who he was. He was Francis, Greg's brother and also the hit-and-run driver who ran Elise over. At that moment, Vincent felt as if a red veil had descended upon him. He grabbed Francis by the collar and punched him in the face. Francis, who was no match for Vincent, could only groan. The police officers pulled Vincent away. "I'm telling you, Greg Fok. Even if you offer me $5 million or even $50 million, I will make yourbrother face prosecution," Vincent shouted at the top of his lungs. However, Greg only smiled at him condescendingly. "You just hit my brother. Are you forfeiting the money? I'm telling you, Vincent Cheung, you're asking for trouble," he said, as he let out an evil grin. It was as if Elise's life meant nothing. Vincent wanted to punch Greg, but Mona stopped him. She took the briefcase, and looked at Greg. Although she tried to conceal it, Vincent could feel from her gaze that there was something going on between her and Greg.
"Mr Fok, since the police have already investigated the matter, we can just close it. Sorry for holding you up," she said. It was then that Vincent realized that Mona's gaze was onto Greg since he entered the ward. Boiling with anger, Vincent pulled Mona aside. "What do you mean?" he threw the question at her. "Elise is still in a coma. And you want to settle the matter in private?" Upon hearing that, Mona's expression changed.
"The police have already investigated the matter. Elise's car accident is an accident. Why must you escalete the situation? Moreover, Elise is also at fault for not looking out for oncoming traffic," she said agitatedly. It was as if Elise was not her daughter. This angered Vincent. "Mona Sze-to," he shouted and pointed at Elise's hospital bed. "Take a good look. She's your own daughter, not a client." Mona pushed Vincent aside and continued, "Like the police mentioned, it was an accident. Why are you being unreasonable? Or are you trying to scam Greg out of more money? Don't you dare try to ruin my reputation." Mona's words cut Vincent like a sword. He finally realized that she was pretending to be a loving wife and mother. He opened his mobile phonegallery and showed her the photo of her with Greg. "Do you think I don't know what you've been up to?" he said. "Your feelings towards him have been reignited. Isn't that why you've been defending him? Elise mean nothing to you as compared to Greg. Mona Sze-to Ching-suet, you're cold-blooded." Mona's face turned pale upon seeing the photo. She turned her face away and raised her voice, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about. I'm Elise's mother, and I have the right to make that decision for her. I'm accepting the settlement money, period. Mr Fok sincerely wanted to make amends. Vincent Cheung, don't you go too far." Vincent could no longer tolerate Mona. For the first time, he raised his hand and struck her on her face. She fell backwards, and Greg held her. He looked at Vincent and said, "Oh, so that's how you've been treating your wife." Seeing that she had Greg's backing, Mona laid in his arms, smiling deviously as she looked at Vincent. Vincent pointed at both Greg and Mona, shouting, "Adulterous pair. How shameless can you be. Mona Sze-to Ching-suet, it was me who helped repay your family's debts. If not for me, you and your family would have ended up on the streets. Haven't you forgotten how Greg Fok dumped you when your family went bankrupt? Now Elise is still in a coma, and you can't wait to be with him. Have you no shame? Just you wait. I won't let you off so easily."
Vincent knew he had to act fast, so after visiting hours were over, he immediately went to the police station, requesting to view the CCTV footage of Elise's accident. However, he was told that the CCTV cameras around the area were not working. He went tothe pub which Francis was seen exiting from before the accident but got the same answer from the bartender. That was too much of a coincidence. Vincent struck his fists on the wall and looked at the pub owner with anger. "Either you let me view the CCTV footage or I'll smash this place," he said threateningly. Blood was tricking from his fists, but Vincent ignored the pain. The bartender pulled him aside and whispered, "Even the backup CCTV footage has been destroyed. I'm just an employee. I can't afford to offend them." Even though the bartender did not mention who the other party was, Vincent knew it had to be Greg. Just then, he received a call from Leon. "Brother Man, I have gotten the CCTV footage before Greg. Don't worry. Besides, I was at the same pub at Francis Fok. I saw him having too much to drink. Rest assured I'll be the witness." Vincent heaved a sigh of relief. Justice could finally be served for Elise. After asking Leon to look out for his own safety, Vincent went to shops near Elise's accident scene to look for CCTV footage that could help prove Francis' guilt, but much to his chagrin, the CCTV cameras had either not captured anything or were not working. Vincent forced himself to calm down, citing that Leon had the CCTV footage to bring Francis to justice. He called Leon, intending to meet up, but Leon's mobile phone was turned off. Sensing that something was wrong, Vincent drove to Leon's house, but it was Leon's wife Ginny who opened the door.
"Ginny, is Leon at home? I need to speak with him," Vincent pleaded. However, Ginny's expression did not seem right. She told him that earlier that day, a few men forcefully took Leonaway without explanation. She did not know where they had taken Leon, or whether she was alright. As Vincent left Leon's house in despair, Mona appeared. Patting him on the back, she asked Vincent once again to drop Elise's case and settle the matter in private, as the Fok family was too powerful for them to do anything. Vincent's anger was reignited.
"Mona Sze-to Ching-suet, as a lawyer, if you have a tinge of conscience, it wouldn't have gone this far. Elise is your flesh and blood. How can you be that heartless?" he shouted. Mona did not answer him and walked away. Desperate, Vincent turned to the media. He publicized Elise's accident, detailing what had happened. Netizens expressed their sympathy for Elise until Greg's identity as the famous influencer was found out. Netizens changed their stance, suspecting Vincent of trying to gain popularity at Greg's expense. Greg released a video of Vincent slapping Mona, and twisted the facts to make it look like Vincent was the troublemaker. As such, Vincent was being cyber-attacked. His efforts to defend himself were being viewed as an attempt to gain popularity.
Mona's parents went to the hospital to look for Vincent. They blamed him for trying to make things worse, and even tried to downplay Elise's accident, saying that Mona was forced to have her. Vincent looked at them with shock. His parents-in-law had become alien to him. Mona turned her head away, as if agreeing with her parents' words. Just then, Vincent's parents, who came into the hospital, heard Mona's parents' words. "What do you mean Mona never wanted to have Elise? Are you saying Vincent forced her to give birth to Elise?" Vincent's mother Connie pointed at them and shouted. Mona's mother Lindy rolled her eyes in disdain and muttered, "If Greg hadn'tgone overseas back then, Vincent wouldn't have been able to use this opportunity to marry Mona. He's not son-in-law material." Connie's face turned red with anger. "Haven't you forgotten that it was your daughter who pleaded for Vincent to marry her?" she threw the question at Lindy. "She came to him voluntarily. Vincent gave your family $30,000 in bride price without asking for any dowry in return. After they get married, Vincent helped to repay your family's debts without needing Mona to worry. If not for Vincent, your family would have ended up on the streets. Now Elise is the accident victim, and Mona, as her mother, sided with the perpetrators instead of her own daughter. I wonder what her motive is." Mona's parents looked like thunderclouds, but they were unable to say anything. Just then, Mona handed Vincent divorce papers, leaving Vincent's parents aghast.
"Vincent Cheung Yat-man, I had no choice but to marry you back then," she said emotionlessly. "I am grateful to you for having supported my family all these years, but I have never loved you. My true love is Greg. Now that he is back, it's the end of our relationship. As for Elise, I have never wanted to have her in the first place." She revealed that she had wanted to abort Elise when she found out she was pregnant, but the doctor told her that it would be hard for her to become pregnant should she proceed with the abortion. "Had it not been for the doctor's advice, I would have aborted her back then," she continued in her emotionless tone. Vincent was aghast. Mona then urged Vincent to sign the divorce papers. At that moment, Vincent was at a loss for words.
"You're sub-human, Mona Sze-to Ching-suet, and you're definitely not fit tobe a mother," Vincent's father Cliff said in disgust, while Connie stared at Mona in anger. Mona, on the other hand, looked at Cliff and Connie in disdain. That night, Mona sent Vincent an agreement detailing the division of their family assets, which Mona would get 90 percent of the property while Vincent would get only 10 percent. Cliff and Connie were red with anger upon seeing the agreement. "That Mona Sze-to Ching-suet is really heartless," Connie shouted. "We've never mistreated her all these years, and that was how she repaid us." By then, Vincent was filled with hatred towards Mona. He resolved to bring Francis to justice
The next morning, Vincent went to shops near Elise's accident scene again, requesting to view their CCTV footage. However, he was told that the footage had been deleted, and there was no backup footage. Despite his pleas, Vincent was being chased away. Just then, a young lady in professional attire approached him, saying she had heard the commotion. She introduced herself as Violet Yip Wing-mun, a lawyer, and expressed her intent to help him. Before Vincent could say anything, Mona appeared, accompanied by Greg. She looked at Vincent condescendingly and shook her head in disdain. "Vincent Cheung, why are you so adamant on prosecuting Francis? Why can't you just let this matter slide? What good does it do..." she said, but before she could continue, Vincent interrupted her. "Because I'm Elise's father. I'm not like you. You have no shame and no conscience, choosing your daughter over some man." Upon hearing those words, Mona's face turned crimson red. Greg wanted to attack Vincent, but Violet stopped him. "Oh, I know you. Mona has mentioned you on a few occasions. You're the loser of a lawyer who has a conviction rate of close to0 percent. No wonder you want to help Vincent Cheung," Greg said condescendingly. Vincent spoke up for Violet, but Greg told him to worry about Elise first. With that, he and Mona cackled and walked away. For some reason, Vincent decided to hire Violet to defend his case, despite her low conviction rate. She agreed.
Vincent went to visit Elise at her ward, accompanied by Violet. The television was turned on, with Greg being featured on the entertainment show. On the entertainment show, Greg was heard telling viewers "Conscience is the key to becoming successful." Viewers were expressing their admiration towards Greg, saying he was not condescendign despite his fame. Disgusted by Greg's duplicity, Vincent turned off the television. No sooner had he turned off the television than he felt Elise's finger touch his hand. He turned around and saw Elise open her eyes. Vincent pressed the alarm button at Elise's bedside to call for a doctor. Doctors arrived at the ward, and after examining Elise, they declared that she was out of woods. Vincent shed tears of relief. Elise's tears flowed freely upon seeing him. She then opened her mouth, as if to say something. Vincent leaned closer, and Elise commented that he had lost weight. Both father and daughter hugged each other.
After Elise regained consciousness, police officers came into the ward to find out details of her accident. Elise, who was trying to recall what happened on that fateful day, said, "Daddy told me to stop when seeing the red light, and to cross only when there is a green light, so I crossed the zebra crossing when there was a green light. But there was a motorist who was speeding and knocked me over. I can't remember anything else."
"That's complete nonsense," a voice rang out. After Elise finishedher statement, Francis appeared outside the ward. He put his hands inside his pants pockets. After that, he made frightening faces towards Elise.
"Young girl, didn't your dad teach you not to lie?" Francis said threateningly. Elise was so scared that she cried. Violet hugged her, while Vincent dragged Francis out of the ward, telling him to get lost. Police officers later came out of the ward, telling Vincent that it was common for kids of Elise's age to make up stories, and they still needed to investigate the truthfulness of her words. At night, Vincent went to buy dinner, while Violet stayed behind to keep Elise company. Suddenly, Vincent received a call from Violet, asking him to return to the ward. She sounded urgent. When he approached the ward, he heard Elise crying, as well as Violet's shouts. He saw Francis inside the ward, making frightening faces towards Elise. Violet was shouting at Francis to go away. Vincent barged into the ward, dragged Francis out and pinned him onto the wall, raining punches on him. Francis was black and blue, but continued goading Vincent into hitting him, saying that even if he had killed Elise, he would still escape prosecution as he had Greg's backing, and that Vincent, a commoner could not do anything to him. Hearing those words made Vincent's blood boil, and he had the urge to kill Francis. Vincent raised his hand again and was about to strike when someone held his hand. He turned around and saw that it was Violet. She shook her head. She then turned to Francis. "Get out of here, or I'll call security," she demanded. Cliff and Connie appeared outside the ward. They were worried. "Francis Fok is too powerful. He has Greg Fok's backing, and Mona Sze-to is representing him. We're on the losing end," Connie said worriedly. Violet introduced herself to Cliff and Connie, promising to do everything in her power to help Elise. Although Connie seemed doubtful due to Violet's relatively low conviction rate, Cliff and Vincent told her that they had no choice. The Cheung family kept running into walls until a breakthrough came. Francis drove while drunk and got involved in another hit-and-run case. This time, 2 victims were hit, and they were a married couple in their 40s. They survived the accident, but were left paralysed from the waist down. The victims' family had called the police and asked to view the CCTV footage, but were told the same answers as what Vincent was told. They happened to learn of Vincent's plight, and managed to find him, asking to work together to bring Francis to justice. Violet also agreed to do a joint defence. With her consent, Vincent once again publicised Francis' hit-and-run on the internet, and as expected, there was a huge backlash, where netizens criticized him for trying to gain popularity. As public opinion became rampant, Vincent used the opportunity to press charges against Francis. No sooner had he started his post than he received a call from Mona. Her tone was cold and distant. "Vincent Cheung, why must you waste your time and energy? Nothing is going to change. The Fok family runs a huge enterprise, and a mistake, no matter how minor, can ruin everything. No matter how hard you try, it's not going to work. Besides, Elise has already regained consciousness. Why don't you take the money and start a new life with her?" Vincent remained resolute. "Mona Sze-to Ching-suet, if you insist on being in cahoots with the Fok family, I'll turn nasty," he warned her. "Vincent Cheung, youreally are too stubborn," she said menacingly. "And to think you hire Violet Yip, that loser of a lawyer to defend you. Her I wonder how you're going to win this case." With that, she hung up the phone.
On the day of the trial, a lot of people turned up. Among the attendees from the Fok family were the Fok brothers and Mona, who was famous for her relatively high conviction rate of 97 percent, while Vincent only had his parents and Violet, who had a relatively low conviction rate of close to 0 percent. Without a shred of remorse, Francis whistled and smirked, "A commoner like you want to take me to court, and hire that loser of a lawyer to defend you. Who do you think you are?" Greg gave him one of his looks, signalling him to keep quiet.
With permission from the judge, Vincent conducted a live recording of the trial. Many netizens entered, mostly consisting of Freg's fans. There was once again a backlash, with many criticizing Vincent. He sat at the plaintiff's stand, scrolling through all the negative comments. The presiding judge banged his gavel and with a stern voice, he asked, "Plaintiff, do you have any witnesses?" The courtroom was silent.
"No," Vincent replied.
"Do you have any evidence?" the presiding judge asked.
"No," Vincent replied once again. Francis could not hold back his laughter. He looked at Vincent with disdain. Comments in the live trial session came up one after another, with many criticizing Vincent for trying to gain popularity. Greg looked at his watch and said, "I have wasted 2 hours of my time just to attend this court case. The plaintiff conducted a court case without evidence or witnesses. What's the meaning of this?" He suddenly raised his voice and said, "I wouldlike to press charges against the plaintiff for making false accusations against my brother Francis. I demand that the plaintiff pay psychological damages and make a public apology." Mona also looked at Vincent, signalling him to lift the charges against Francis and apologise. Francis pointed a middle finger towards Vincent to mock him. Netizens lashed out at him, appealing for the law to punish him severely.
Just as there seemed to be no turning point, a someone approached Violet and whispered into her ear, and she suddenly announced, "Your Honour, please allow me to summon the witness Leon Wong Tsun-ho." As the judge gave his approval, everyone looked towards the entrance. Vincent's eyes lit up. It was Leon, who had been missing for the past few weeks. He was covered in bruises. 4 police officers escorted him to court. Francis' eyes widened in disbelief, but Greg gave him a look of reassurance. Mona also reassured him that with her around, she can win the case.
Leon walked towards the witness stand. Pointing at Francis, he testified that he was at the same pub as Francis on the day of Elise's accident. Francis had too much to drink. They exited the pub almost at the same time. Instead of calling a cab, Francis drove his motorcycle in his drunken stupor. Mona immeditely refuted Leon's claims, citing that his relationship with Vincent could undermine the truthfulness of his statement. She even alleged that Leon was covering up for Vincent. The presiding judge also cast doubt on the truthfulness of Leon's statement. However, he maintained his stance. While Mona asked Leon if he had the evidence, he challenged her, "Miss Sze-to, as Elise's mother, you chose to defend the perpetrator instead of your own daughter. Don't you have any conscience?" Mona's face turned redwith embarrassment, but quickly adjusted herself. "A lawyer should be impartial. My principles do not allow me to cover up for anyone." Hearing this, Leon snorted with laughter. Mona then asked Vincent if he had evidence to back up his claims. Both Leon and Vincent were silent. "Since you don't have the evidence, I can press charges against you for slander," Mona said with a look of confidence. There was no tinge of sympathy for Elise. Suddenly, a voice rang out from the entrance. "I have the evidence." Everyone looked towards rhe entrance once again. A teenage girl in school uniform was panting, like she had been rushing to the courtroom, and holding a USB drive. She looked at Francis with hate in her eyes. "I have evidence of Francis Fok committing the hit-and-run," she said. Greg visibly frowned. The teenage girl continued, "On the day of the young girl's accident, I was at home experimenting with the function keys of the CCTV cameras I just bought. It happened to record Francis Fok committing the hit-and-run." Francis looked at Greg with pleading eyes, hoping Greg would help him.
"Your Honour, please allow me to play the video recording in court," Violet announced. When the judge gave his approval, the video recording was played in court. It clearly documented Francis knocking Elise over. Just then, a member of the public stood up from the public gallery and pointed at Francis, accusing him of harrassment. More people stood up and accused Francis of various crimes. The situation became favourable for Vincent. Francis held Greg by his hands, pleading for his help. Greg simply frowned. As the presiding judge banged his gavel, he announced Vincent to be the winning party. Netizens were shocked by the turning point. Comments were sprawled all over theInternet. This time though, negative comments were directed against Francis for having escaped prosecution time and again due to his family's influence, and Greg for covering up for Francis. Greg's followers started unfollowing him on the Internet. Francis was immediately taken into police custody. As for Mona, she stood rooted in the courtroom, her face red with embarrassment. A netizen recognised her and the butterfly-shaped birthmark on her neck. They realized she was Greg's girlfriend, and from there, they deduced what really happened. Netizens cyber-attacked Mona, calling her 'heartless' for defending her daughter's perpertrators. Some netizens found out where Mona was working, appealing to have her fired. Due to the scandal, Mona was fired. Her lawyer's license was revoked and she was subsequently blacklisted from all law firms. Desperate, she went to Vincent, begging for his forgiveness. After the court case, the Fok family ignored her, and Greg broke up with her. However, Vincent ignored her pleas too. "Elise is still young, she can't grow up without a mother," she pleaded. However, the mere mention of Elise made Vincent's blood boil. "Don't you dare mention Elise with your filthy mouth," he said angrily. "You're not fit to be her mother. She went through all of these because of you. Go away before I publicize your residential address. You make my life miserable, I can also make your parents' lives miserable." Just then, Violet appeared. "You heard Mr Cheung. Never appear in front of him and Elise, or I'll sue you for harrassment." Hearing those words, and afraid Vincent and Violet would do something, Mona ran away in fright.
Many people attended Francis' sentencing trial. They consisted mostly of his victims' family members. Upon hearing that Francis was sentenced to 20 years in prison, the victims' family members cheered, while the Fokparents wept. When Elise was discharged, Leon and Ginny arrived. From Leon's account, it was revealed that it was Greg's men who had forcibly took him away. They threatened Ginny not to call the police. Greg's men kept Leon in a small hut, and he escaped when they accidentally left the door unlocked. While running away, he ran into a lady, asking for her help. With the lady's help, Leon called Ginny using the public phone, asking her not to tell anyone he had contacted her. The lady was none other than the messenger who had whispered into Violet's ear during Francis' trial, which allowed Violet to summon Leon as the witness. "We have to seek justice for Elise," Leon said. Vincent was heartened that justice had been served for Elise, aided by people not related to her.
Some time later, the Fok enterprise collapsed dur to Francis' scandal, and the Fok family declared bankruptcy. Greg was facing charges for covering up for Francis' crimes, which was backed up by concrete evidence. Mona had to get part-time jobs just to get by. On the other hand, Violet's fame skyrocketed, and her luck changed for the better. After everything was over, Vincent started dating Violet. She also got along with Elise, who regarded her as a mother figure. After a few months of dating, Vincent proposed to Violet and she agreed. They married the following year.
