Rick and his wife Deborah had been out of Hong Kong for a few days due to a business trip. Having been back to Hong Kong, they decided to pay Rick's mother Christy a visit.
Rick and Deborah went to Christy's house. But before they could knock on the door, she opened the door. However, she did not seem happy to see them.
"What are you doing here?" she asked in a low voice.
"Mom, what are you talking about?" Rick said. "Deborah and I had just come back, and we wanted very much to see you."
"Rick Ngai Chun-kit, who are you think you are, posing as my son? Go away before someone sees you. Same to you, Deborah Cheung Wai-mun," Christy said, and closed the door behind her.
Rick and Deborah were baffled by Christy's behaviour. "How did she become like this?" Rick wondered. Suddenly, they remembered her words "before someone sees you". It was as if she was trying to warn them agaisnt entering her house. They suspected that something was amiss, so they peeped into the window. To their horror, they saw that Christy was being taken hostage by 3 masked men.
Rick decided to call the police. He and Deborah hid themselves before calling the police. Within minutes, police officers arrived and the 3 masked men were apprehended. Christy told the police what had happened. Subsequent police investigations revealed that there had been a spate of house robberies happening, targeting lone elderly personnel, and the 3 masked men were indeed the culprits who were wanted by the authorities. Christy was unfortunately a target, and the culprits had taken her hostage as she was alone. She had managed to run away from the culprits and wanted to escape when she saw Rick and Deborah at the door. Knowing the precarious situationthey would be in, she deliberately said harsh words to prevent them from being targeted by the 3 masked men. With the apprehension of the culprits, Rick, Deborah and Christy embraced, relieved that the ordeal was over.
