Melissa worked very hard in the hospital. She presently was a PSW but was working hard to become a nurse. Much like her mom, her dream would soon come true. All her life she was so kind and compassionate to others.
??????
Dr. Scott worked on the same floor as Melissa and from time to time they would have a coffee together and talk over their day. A doctor,a son, and a man who worked at the local food bank. He had a rough time growing up in life with his single mom, food wasn't always something they had. His mom and sister and Dr. Scott worked very hard to get where they were in life.
Dr. Scott himself would check in on different patients that didn't have visitors or family. His life was involved around people. Of course with the exception of Melissa.
Unlike Dr. Scott, Melissa grew up in a home where there wasn't anything she didn't have or went without. A very determined girl, worked in a fast-food restaurant to pay her way through school. The money was there, but she wanted to prove to herself that she could do it on her own.
Dr. Scott was very impressed with her. Melissa, how she took on extra hours at the hospital to make extra money. All that she had put towards her last year in nursing school.
It was quite often the two of them would go awhile before seeing each other. Dedicated to their lives and especially to their jobs. When they did, it was like they were right back where they were when they have last seen each other.
"Sirens Were Loud" - " All Doctors To The Emergency"
One ambulance after another was coming in. Stretcher after stretcher was bringing people in.
Apparently, there had been a large accident on the highway. Alreadytwo lives were taken.
Sadly Melissa was brought in, barely breathing. The doctors and nurses around her were working hard, soon they got her heart going. It wasn't long she was heading to x-ray and surgery.
It all happened so fast. The quick hands of the doctors and nurses saved Melissa's life. The impact of the car that hit her tossed her out of the car, and her lungs were damaged, her face was sewn up. Her parents were called and the doctor caring for her said, only time would tell.
Total Shock
After Dr. Scott was done working on the patients from the accident. Walking over to do his reports. Only to be in shock.
The nurses were talking with each other he stepped behind the nurse's station. He overheard them talking about Melissa and they were hoping she was going to make it.
Then he heard them say she was still in critical condition. We will need all nurses on deck..
Feeling terrified and his heart racing, he asked the nurses to see her chart. This was his Melissa, the girl he had fallen for and never got to tell her how he felt.
After his shift was over he went and got coffee and snacks for her parents, asking if he could sit with them.
Looking at her, holding her hand he told her" I love you". "Please be strong, we have so much to do together."
"The Sun Was Shining"
Dr. Scott fell asleep right beside Melissa's bed. Her parents were given pull-out chairs, but it was a long night.
When the nurse came in to take her vital signs, Melissa opened her eyes then all of a sudden started screaming.
Quickly her mom and dad and Dr. Scott and the nurse ran to her to comfort her. Totally in shock, she wasn't sure where she was. Her eyeswouldn't stop looking at Dr. Scott.
The Doctor who cared for her asked for everyone to leave while he checked her over. Later he came out and told them that he gave her a sedative to relax her and they would be checking on her a lot. Her vital signs were good. Now the healing begins.
" Two Months Later"
Dr. Scott never missed a day that he didn't check on Melissa. Her health was improving more and more. The hospital even had her computer set up so she could finish her final exams to become a nurse.
Dr. Scott finally told her "I love you".
Melissa started to cry, I love you too," but I look terrible with all of the scars on my face".
He told her he was so proud of her, how hard she had to fight to be here. "Those scars are hero marks that you have, they will heal but you will always be my Melissa. My determined PSW soon to be a nurse and in my heart the only girl I will ever love.
Melissa kept crying, she still felt she wasn't good enough to be with a doctor. Not one who all the nurses called "handsome". Down deep she knew he was the only man she ever loved.
"The Plastic Surgeon"
Melissa was moved to a different part of the hospital, she was starting the stages of having plastic surgery. Most of it was on her face and some on her neck.
During the time she was going through the procedure, Dr. Scott came by but her face was always wrapped in white bandages.
Not being able to see her, he was overjoyed to hear her voice.
He even asked her about the Social Dance they had at the hospital.
Melissa said "Will See".
"Dreams Come True"
During recovery at home, Melissa talked on the phone withDr. Scott and she agreed to go to the dance, as long as he didn't come by and see her until then. "Only a week to go."
Her mom found a red dress in her closet and the two of them changed it all around. It looked perfect on Melissa but the real surprise was yet to come.
With the knock at the door, Dr. Scott arrived right on time. Both her parents welcomed him in.
Although nervous, carrying a beautiful basket of red roses, he looked up.
Wow, Melissa, you look so beautiful as he leaned in and gave her a kiss. (her scars were gone)
He took her hand, helped her down the steps, and looked at her with so much love and compassion as she did him.
Kneeling on one knee (holding her hand)he recited this poem:
You are so inspiring and you have captured my heart.
I can't imagine a day that we are apart.
My biggest dream I have ever had in my life.
Are you, will you be my wife.
Melissa couldn't stop saying yes. Several times.
The dance that followed, their eyes were locked. The smile on their face showed their love for each other. So much to look forward to, so much planning for the wedding. The excitement has only just begun.
