Matthew raised his son Austin single-handedly since he was a baby. The boy did not know who his mother was, as he had never seen her before. Matthew did not disclose her identity either. Despite this, both father and son had a tight-knit relationship.
One day, Austin and Matthew were at home. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. "Let me get the door," Austin volunteered. He opened the door and saw a man at the door.
"May I help you?" Austin asked. "I would like to look for your mother. Is she around?" the man said and scanned the living room. "Sir, I think you're mistaken. I don't have...," Austin said. Before he could continue, he was interrupted by Matthew, who asked, "Son, who's that?" When Matthew got to the door, shock was written all over his face. "What are you doing here?" Matthew asked in a low but angry tone.
"I have come back to look for Gina," Caine said. "I didn't see her, but instead I happened to see this boy on the street, and he looked like me. I followed him here." He then paused for a while and continued, "Is he my son?"
"What do you mean he's your son? This is my son," Matthew replied defensively.
"Really?" Caine said. "You say he is your son. Or to be exact, is he my son with Gina? How do you explain why he looks like me?"
"Don't you dare mention Gina with your filthy mouth," Matthew warned him angrily. "You did unspeakablethings to her back then, and she had to go through therapy for some time. She has already moved on from that incident, so stop disturbing her."
"She brought this upon herself," Caine tried to justify himself. "I pursued her back then, but she wasn't interested in me. I can't have her, no one else can, so I did that to her in order for her to be mine."
"You really are crazy," Matthew said and shook his head, disgusted. "It's good that Gina isn't interested in you. What you did to her proved it."
"I wonder if Gina knows anything about our son," Caine said in a low, threatening voice, ignoring Matthew's comment. "I'll tell her about it. I'm interested to see how she would react if she found out her brother has been hiding her son from her. Unless of course, you give me $10,000 as hush money."
"You can't do that," Matthew tried to stop him and pulled his hand, but Caine pushed him away. As the men were struggling, they saw Austin stand at the doorway. He had heard every word of their conversation.
"What's going on here?" Austin asked, shocked.
"Ask your dad. I believe he has a lot to tell you," Caine paused and turned to Matthew. "I give you 3 days to raise the amount. When we meet, I expect the money to be ready," he cackled before exiting the house.
"Austin, I can explain...," Matthew said frantically. Austin agreed to hear him out. Matthew admitted that Austin was not his biological son but was the biological son of Gina and Caine. He then recounted the events. Back then, Caine was pursuing Gina, but she was not interested in him. However, Caine was relentless and continued harassing her until she avoided him. She realized that Caine had taken advantage of her while she was unconscious, and was shocked that she let herself trust him. However, the worse was yet to come. Gina later found out that she was pregnant. Since she did not have a boyfriend and Caine was the only man whom she had met, she knew the baby was his. She wanted to have an abortion, but doctors told her that she was too far along in her pregnancy for them to do anything about it. Gina begged Matthew to think of something, as she could not have Caine's baby. Matthew promised to do everything in his power to help her. Gina was in a subway when her water broke. She blacked out in the process, and when she was rushed to the nearest hospital, doctors had to do a Cesarean section. As Gina was still unconscious when Austin was born and knowing that Austin was a reminder of what Caine did to her, Matthew bribed the doctor to lie to her that the baby did notmake it. He then took Austin away and registered him under his name, thereby becoming Austin's father. When Gina regained consciousness and the doctor delivered the news to her, she was not too upset, which made Matthew believe he had done the right thing.

He did not return to Hong Kong to reminisce his past with Gina, but to use her past to blackmail her and run away from his debts. When he unexpectedly found out about Austin, he followed the latter and found out his address. When he found out from Matthew's body language that Austin was his biological son, he changed his mind and decided to use Austin's real parentage to blackmail Matthew instead. She told Matthew about her findings, which he in turn revealed to Gina along with Austin's parentage during their meeting. Tony overheard the conversation. As he was Gina's therapist before they got married, he knew Caine's atrocity against her, and advised her to call the police. He and Michelle stayed behind to help apprehend Caine. As Caine was led away, Gina told him that it was fortunate that she did not have feelings for him, to which he replied that he did not really have feelings for her, but merely considered her as a possession. Tony wanted to punch him, but was stopped by Matthew, who said that the law would handle Caine.
